Jacqueline Montpetit
Jacqueline Montpetit is a politician in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She served on the Montreal city council from 2001 to 2009 and was borough mayor of Le Sud-Ouest. Montpetit has also served as a school commissioner. Early life and career Montpetit has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the Université Laval. She worked at the ''Carrefour d'éducation populaire de Pointe-Saint-Charles'' from 1971 to 1974 and, after raising a family, oversaw the same organization from 1987 to 1990. School commissioner Montpetit was elected to the Montreal Catholic School Commission in 1994 as a candidate of the secular and progressive Mouvement pour une école moderne et ouverte (MÉMO). Although MÉMO won more seats than any other party in this election, they fell short of a majority, and the governing Regroupement scolaire confessionnel (RSC) was able to remain in office with support from a smaller party. Marguerite Bourgeoys
Marguerite Bourgeoys (17 April 162012 January 1700), was a French nun and founder of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in the colony of New France, now part of Québec, Canada. Born in Troyes, she became part of a sodality, ministering to the poor from outside the convent. She was recruited by the governor of Montreal to set up a convent in New France, and she sailed to Fort Ville-Marie (now Montreal) by 1653. There she developed the convent. She and her congregation educated young girls, the poor, and children of First Nations until shortly before her death in early 1700. She is significant for developing one of the first uncloistered religious communities in the Catholic Church. Declared "venerable" by the pope in 1878, she was canonized in 1982 and declared a saint by the Catholic Church, the first female saint of Canada. Projet Montréal (officially Projet Montréal - Équipe Valérie Plante) is a progressive, environmentalist municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Oscar Peterson
Oscar Emmanuel Peterson (August 15, 1925 – December 23, 2007) was a Canadian virtuoso jazz pianist and composer. Considered one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, Peterson released more than 200 recordings, won seven Grammy Awards, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, and received numerous other awards and honours. Little Burgundy (french: La Petite-Bourgogne) is a neighbourhood in the South West borough of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Geography Its approximate boundaries are Atwater Avenue to the west, Saint-Antoine to the north, Guy Street to the east, and the Lachine Canal to the south. Lachine Canal
The Lachine Canal ( in French (language), French) is a canal passing through the southwestern part of the Island of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, running 14.5 kilometres (9 miles) from the Old Port of Montreal to Lake Saint-Louis, through the boroughs of Lachine (borough), Lachine, LaSalle, Quebec, Lasalle and Le Sud-Ouest, Sud-Ouest.
