Jacobs Cavern
Jacobs Cavern is a cave or rock shelter east of Pineville, Missouri, Pineville in McDonald County, Missouri, McDonald County, Missouri. History Jacobs Cavern is named after its discoverer, E. H. Jacobs of Bentonville, Arkansas. It was scientifically explored by him, in company with Charles Peabody and Warren K. Moorehead, in 1903. The findings were published in that year by Jacobs in the Benton County Sun; by C. N. Gould in ''Science'', July 31, 1903; by Peabody in the ''Am. Anthropologist'', Sept. 903; and in the ''Am. Journ. Archaeology'', 1904; and by Peabody and Moorehead, 1904, as ''Bulletin I. of the Robert S. Peabody Institute of Archaeology, Dept. of Archaeology'' in Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, in the museum of which are exhibits, maps, and photographs. The hammerstone is a rather universal stone tool which appeared early in most regions of the world including Europe, India and North America. In archaeology, a celt is a long, thin, prehistoric, stone or bronze tool similar to an adze, hoe, or axe.
