Jacobo Majluta Azar
Jacobo Majluta Azar (9 October 1934 – 2 March 1996) was Vice President of the Dominican Republic from 16 August 1978 to 4 July 1982. He was one of the generations of politicians in the Dominican Republic whose ambition was continually thwarted by the country's labyrinthine power struggles and sectarianism. Biography Born in 1934 into a merchant family of Lebanese origin, Majluta studied finance at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo before working as an accountant in the banking and state sectors. He married Ana Elisa Villanueva on April 17, 1962. The couple had one daughter, Consuelo Elena. Majluta joined the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) in 1961, in the wake of the dictator Leonidas Trujillo's assassination, and rose quickly, becoming the youngest minister in Juan Bosch's short-lived government of 1963. The Ministry of Finance of the Dominican Republic is responsible for the public finances of the Dominican Republic. History The Ministry was established on 14 November 1844, nine months after the country attained independence. It was known originally as the Ministry of Finance and Trade. The first Minister was Ricardo Miura, who held office from 1844 to 1847. Ramón Matías Mella was the fourth Minister and served from 26 September 1849 to 8 April 1850. The Ministry has gone through several name changes. In 1926, it changed to Secretary of State for Finance. Soon after, it was merged with the Ministry of Labor and Communications (on 28 January 1931). The name was amended to Ministry of Finance, Labor and Communications. Jacinto Peynado Garrigosa
Jacinto Bienvenido Peynado Garrigosa (9 March 1941 – 9 August 2004) was a businessman and politician who served as Vice President of the Dominican Republic from 1994 to 1996. Biography His father was Enrique Peynado Soler (son of the late president Jacinto Peynado y Peynado and Mercedes Soler Machado), and his mother was Miguelina Olimpia Garrigosa Thormann (daughter of Miguel Garrigosa Gallardo and Olimpia Thormann Lamarche). He married Margarita Altagracia Álvarez Sorrentino, the daughter of Jaime Tomás Álvarez Valverde (1915–1993) and Margarita Sorrentino Visonne, an immigrant from Secondigliano, Italy. The Senate of the Dominican Republic ( es, Senado de la República Dominicana) is the upper house in the bicameral legislature of the Dominican Republic, and together with the Chamber of Deputies makes up the Congress. The composition and powers of the Senate are established in Third Title, Chapter 1 in the First Section of the Dominican Constitution. Each province, and the Distrito Nacional, regardless of population, is represented by one senator who serves for a four-year term, with possibility of reelection. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. Lung Cancer
Lung cancer, also known as lung carcinoma (since about 98–99% of all lung cancers are carcinomas), is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. Lung carcinomas derive from transformed, malignant cells that originate as epithelial cells, or from tissues composed of epithelial cells. Other lung cancers, such as the rare sarcomas of the lung, are generated by the malignant transformation of connective tissues (i.e. nerve, fat, muscle, bone), which arise from mesenchymal cells. Lymphomas and melanomas (from lymphoid and melanocyte cell lineages) can also rarely result in lung cancer.
