Jacoba Van Tongeren
Jacoba van Tongeren (14 October 1903, in Tjimahi near Bandung, Dutch East Indies – 15 September 1967, in Bergen, Netherlands) was a resistance fighter, the founder and leader of Group 2000, a resistance group during the Second World War. Jacoba van Tongeren is the only woman to have created and led a resistance group during the war. In 1990, Yad Vashem honoured Jacoba van Tongeren as Righteous Among the Nations. Early life Jacoba van Tongeren was the daughter of Hermannus van Tongeren and Jeanne Holle. In her younger years, her father would raise her and this would have a bearing on the rest of her life. Jacoba Van Heemskerck
Jkvr. Jacoba Berendina van Heemskerck van Beest (1876-1923) was a Dutch painter, stained glass designer and graphic artist who worked in several modern genres. She specialized in landscapes and still-lifes. Biography Her father, Jacob Eduard van Heemskerck van Beest, was an officer in the Royal Netherlands Navy who also painted seascapes and landscapes. Her first art lessons came from him. Jacoba Hol (21 September 1886 – 15 October 1964) was a Dutch physical geographer. In 1945, she was appointed professor of physical geography at the Geographic Institute at Utrecht University. Jacoba van Velde (10 May 1903, in The Hague – 7 September 1985, in Amsterdam) was a Dutch writer, translator, and dramaturge. Jacoba Surie (5 September 1879 – 5 February 1970) was a Dutch painter. Surie was born in Amsterdam and trained at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten there, where she studied under Joseph Mendes da Costa. She was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and the Pulchri Studio. She is considered one of the Amsterdamse Joffers. Her work was also part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Surie died in Amsterdam and was buried in Zorgvlied.
