Jacksonville State Gamecocks
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are the intercollegiate athletic teams of Jacksonville State University (JSU) located in Jacksonville, Alabama, United States. The Gamecocks athletic program is a member of the ASUN Conference, which it rejoined on July 1, 2021 after an 18-year absence spent in the Ohio Valley Conference, and competes at the NCAA Division I level including the Football Championship Subdivision. In football, JSU is currently a de facto associate member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), competing in a formal partnership between the ASUN and WAC that will operate until they formally join a FBS football league, Conference USA, in all sports for the 2023-24 academic year. The JSU mascot is Cocky the Gamecock, and the school colors are red and white. Gamecock teams have won six NCAA national championships in four sports, and, along with Wisconsin–Whitewater, is one of only two schools to win NCAA titles in baseball, basketball, and football. Jacksonville State University
Jacksonville State University (JSU) is a public university in Jacksonville, Alabama. Founded in 1883, Jacksonville State offers programs of study in six academic schools leading to bachelor's degree, bachelor's, master's degree, master's, education specialist, and doctorate degrees in addition to certificate programs and continuing education opportunities. In the Fall semester of 2011, JSU began offering the school's first doctoral degree, Doctor of Science in Emergency Management. In 2016, the university gained approval to offer its second doctorate, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. The university was founded as Jacksonville State Normal School, and in 1930, the name changed to Jacksonville State Teachers College, and again in 1957, to Jacksonville State College. Jacksonville State Gamecocks Softball
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks softball team represents Jacksonville State University in NCAA Division I college softball. As of July 1, 2023 the team participates in the Conference USA Conference (C-USA). Prior to the move they were in the ASUN, a league in which it had been a member from 1995 to 2003. Prior to that JSU played in the OVC. The Gamecocks are currently led by head coach Jana McGinnis. Coach McGinnis played basketball at JSU from 1987-1990. Assistant coaches are Mark Wisener and Julie Boland. The team plays its home games at University Field located on the university's campus. The Gamecocks reached the NCAA Super Regionals in 2009. The Jacksonville State Gamecocks men's basketball team is the men's basketball team that represents Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. JSU is a member of the ASUN Conference, having returned to that conference on July 1, 2021, after an 18-year absence spent in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Gamecocks are coached by Ray Harper. The Jacksonville State Gamecocks women's basketball team represents Jacksonville State University (JSU), located in Jacksonville, Alabama, in NCAA Division I women's basketball. The Gamecocks compete as members of Conference USA. History Jacksonville State began play in 1976 with official play beginning in 1982. They have made the NCAA Tournament in 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1993, with an Elite Eight appearance in 1991. That year, they beat Valdosta State 103–84, North Alabama 81–80, Delta State 71–67 before losing to Bentley 97–92. They were champions of the Gulf South Conference in 1991 and tournament champions in 1993, with the latter championship occurring in their final season in that league. The University of Wisconsin–Whitewater Warhawks (casually known as the UW–Whitewater Warhawks or Warhawks) are the athletic teams of the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. Twenty Warhawk athletic teams compete in NCAA NCAA Division III, Division III. The Warhawks currently rank third out of all NCAA Division III schools in the NACDA Director's Cup standings. Conference USA (C-USA or CUSA) is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. C-USA's offices are located in Dallas, Texas. History C-USA was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference and Great Midwest Conference, two Division I conferences that did not sponsor football. However, the merger did not include either Great Midwest member Dayton or Metro members VCU and Virginia Tech. Western Athletic Conference
The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is an NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Utah, Washington (state), Washington, and Texas. Due to most of the conference's College football, football-playing members leaving the WAC for other affiliations, the conference discontinued football as a sponsored sport after the 2012–13 season and left the NCAA's NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A). The ASUN Conference, formerly the Atlantic Sun Conference, is a collegiate athletic conference operating mostly in the Southeastern United States.
