Jackson is a town in Waldo County, Maine, United States. The town was named after General Henry Jackson of the Revolutionary War. The population was 610 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which, of it is land and is water. Jackson is drained by North Branch Marsh Stream. It has one pond, Drake Pond (13 acres). Jackson is located on Route 7, south of U.S. Route 202. It is bordered on the north by Dixmont, on the east by Monroe, on the south by Brooks and on the west by Thondike. The topography is hilly, with high points at over on Mount Harris and other peaks to the north, remnants of the Appalachian chain. The land area of the township is mostly forested, primarily a second growth northern mixed hardwood forest dominated by ash, poplar, oak, maple, pine, cedar, spruce, tamarack (larch) and hemlock. Jackson, Ohio
Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Ohio, United States approximately 27 mi (43 km) SE of Chillicothe. The population was 6,239 at the 2020 census. History Established in 1817, residents named the town after Andrew Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812, and an eventual president of the United States. The community grew slowly, having only 297 inhabitants in 1840. In 1846, Jackson contained four churches, about seven stores, and a single newspaper office. Over the next 40 years, the town grew quickly, attaining a population of 3,021 people in 1880. By 1880, two railroad lines passed through the community, helping to spur economic and population growth. In 1886, two newspaper offices, eight churches, and two banks existed in Jackson. The largest businesses in the town were the Star Furnace Company and the Globe Iron Company, with 30 employees apiece. Both firms used local coal and iron ore deposits to make iron products. Jackson is a town in southeastern Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The town was formed from part of the town of Cambridge in 1815. Cambridge Valley Livestock is the longest running business in the town. Jackson Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, the township population was 58,544. A portion of the township is located within the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Roughly equidistant between New York City and Philadelphia, Jackson is the site of Six Flags Great Adventure, home to the Kingda Ka, which as of 2022 is the tallest roller coaster in the world. Jackson is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,028 at the 2020 census, up from 816 at the 2010 census. Jackson is a resort area in the White Mountains. Parts of the White Mountain National Forest are in the west, north and east. History Once consisting of several large land grants by colonial Governor John Wentworth, the town was first named "New Madbury", after the seacoast town of Madbury. In 1772, a road was built through Pinkham Notch, and the area was first settled in 1778 by Benjamin Copp and his family. In 1800, the community was renamed in honor of President John Adams, who was then in office. Jackson is a village in Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE– SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 223 at the 2010 census. History Prior to the establishment of Jackson, the townsite of Old St. John's was settled approximately 1.5 miles north of the current site of Jackson on June 2, 1856, by a Catholic colony of sixty Irish immigrants led by Father Trecy. The colony was one of the first towns settled in Dakota County, and the first Catholic parish in Nebraska. When the rising Missouri River began to threaten the town around 1860, all of the residents of Old St. John's moved south to what is now known as Jackson. Jackson was originally called Franklin, and under the latter name was laid out in about 1860. Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States. It is a principal city of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Jackson was 15,481 at the 2020 census. History In 1813, Cape Girardeau County succeeded Cape Girardeau District, and the Court of Common Pleas and the Court of General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace in Cape Girardeau were superseded by the Court of Common Pleas, leading to a new seat of justice.
