Jackie Mooney
Jackie Mooney (1938 – 30 December 2017) was an Irish soccer player during the 1960s and 1970s. Mooney played for Shamrock Rovers, Athlone Town and Bohemians amongst others during his career in the League of Ireland. Club career Jackie was spotted playing for Home Farm by Billy Behan in 1955 and joined Manchester United. After 3 years at the club however, Mooney left Old Trafford without making the breakthrough. He had short spells at Bangor City and Cork Hibernians before signing for Shamrock Rovers where he made a scoring debut, against Shels in Dalymount Park on 22 August 1962. He scored for Rovers in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup against Valencia C.F. in the Estadio Mestalla in 1963. Mestalla Stadium ( es, Estadio de Mestalla , ca-valencia, Estadi de Mestalla ) is a football stadium in Valencia, Spain. The stadium is the home of Valencia Club de Fútbol and has a capacity of 48,600 seats, making it the 8th-largest stadium in Spain, and the largest in the Valencian Community. Dublin City Cup
The Dublin City Cup is a defunct Irish football tournament which was played for by all League of Ireland sides (and not just those from Dublin city as the name suggests). It ran from 1933 and ran uninterrupted until 1973. In the 1975–76 season it was revived and played for by sides who did not reach the League of Ireland Cup quarter-finals. In 1983–84 it was revived again but only eight teams were invited to play, the six Dublin sides ( Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, St Patrick's Athletic, UCD and Home Farm) along with Drogheda United and Dundalk. Athlone (; ) is a town on the border of County Roscommon and County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located on the River Shannon near the southern shore of Lough Ree. League Of Ireland Shield
The League of Ireland Shield ( ga, Sciath Sraithe na hÉireann) is a defunct Irish football tournament which was introduced when the League of Ireland started in 1921 and ran uninterrupted until 1972. It was played before the league season began and was seen as the third most important trophy in Irish football, after the league and FAI Cup. The winners of the Shield gained entry to the following season's Inter-Cities Fairs Cup until 1971–72. It was played in a variety of formats; from complete round robin series to group stages followed by knock out games to complete knock out tournaments. It was replaced by the League of Ireland Cup in 1973, though returned for one season in 1983–84. Glenmalure Park
Glenmalure Park, often simply known as Milltown, was a football stadium on the Southside of Dublin city in Ireland. Located in the suburb of Milltown, it was home to Shamrock Rovers from 1926 to 1987, when it was sold to property developers by the club's directors. It is now a housing estate called Glenmalure Square. Ringsend to Milltown Shamrock Rovers moved from the inner city area of Ringsend in the early 20th century to the then semi-rural suburb of Milltown. In Milltown, Rovers secured a long-term lease of land from the Jesuit Order, who were based in the area. The club's ground there was largely built by their supporters, who constructed the main stand and banked the areas on the other three sides. It was officially opened on Sunday 19 September 1926, with a friendly game against Belfast Celtic in front of a crowd of 18,000. The Football Association of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup (FAI Cup), known as the Extra.ie FAI Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out association football competition contested annually by teams from the Republic of Ireland (as well as Derry City from Northern Ireland). Denis Doyle
Denis "Dinny" Doyle (born 1900, date of death unknown) was an Irish football wing half who played professionally in Ireland and the United States. He earned one cap with the Irish Free State national football team in 1926. He was born in Dublin. He joined Shamrock Rovers F.C. in 1922 and played in that year's FAI Cup final which they lost in a replay. He then moved back to centre-half until he left the club in 1927. That year, he moved to the USA with Bob Fullam where he signed with the Philadelphia Celtic of the American Soccer League. The team played only ten games before failing financially. He then transferred to the Fall River Marksmen. He won three league titles with the Marksmens. He began the 1929-1930 season with the Marksmen, playing three games, before transferring to the Pawtucket Rangers. In 1931, he moved to the New York Yankees. Dalymount Park
Dalymount Park (Irish: ''Páirc Cnocán Uí Dhálaigh'') is a football stadium in Phibsborough on the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. It is the home of Bohemian F.C., who have played there since the early 20th century. Affectionately known as Dalyer by fans, it was also historically the "home of Irish football", holding many Irish internationals and FAI Cup finals. It has also hosted UEFA Champions League qualifiers, UEFA Cup and UEFA Cup Winners' Cup matches.
