West Virginia's 1st Senate District
West Virginia's 1st Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republican Ryan Weld and Republican Laura Wakim Chapman . All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 1 is based in the Northern Panhandle, covering all of Brooke, Hancock, and Ohio Counties and parts of Marshall County. It includes the communities of Wheeling, Chester, New Cumberland, Weirton, Follansbee, Wellsburg, West Liberty, and Bethlehem. The district is located entirely within West Virginia's 2nd congressional district, and overlaps with all or part of the 1st through 7th districts of the West Virginia House of Delegates. Pat McGeehan
Patrick Riley McGeehan is a Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and a former candidate for the United States Senate election in West Virginia, 2014. He is the son of Lt. Col. Mark McGeehan who died in the 1994 Fairchild Air Force Base B-52 crash. Biography From 1998 to 2006, McGeehan served in the United States Air Force as an Intelligence Officer and Captain, and served tours in Afghanistan. After leaving the military, McGeehan joined the business sector. In 2006 he became President of Mountain State Packaging Incorporated in Newell, West Virginia, and in 2007 became President of Panhandle Industries in Weirton, West Virginia. Chris Wakim
Chris Wakim (born December 19, 1957) is a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates having represented the Third District from 2003 to 2007. He was also the 2008 Republican nominee for the First Senatorial District in West Virginia. The Third District represents the majority of citizens in Ohio County, WV. In the 77th West Virginia House of Delegates, Wakim was the Ranking Republican on the Veterans Affairs/Homeland Security committee. The grandson of Lebanese immigrants, he graduated from West Point in 1980. During his 11-year Army career, Wakim attained the rank of captain, along the way suffering a broken back, crushed elbow, and reconstructed knee while an infantry officer. He now has disabled veteran status. Wakim has not provided specific details about how the accidents occurred. The Secretary of State of West Virginia is an elected office within the U.S. state of West Virginia state government. The secretary of state is responsible for overseeing the state's election process, including voter registration and election results reporting.
