Jack Stokes (director)
John Albert Stokes (2 April 1920 – 20 March 2013) was a British animation director best known for his work on the 1968 Beatles film '' Yellow Submarine''. Life and career Jack Stokes began his training at Southend College of Art. After serving in the RAF during the Second World War, he was fortunate to be taken on as a trainee animator at the Gaumont British Animation studio which had recently opened at Moor Hall, Berkshire. Such opportunities were almost unknown in Britain in the post-war years. By the early 1960s he had established his own studio, Stokes Cartoons, producing work for cinema and television. It was during this time that he began working with the Canadian film-maker George Dunning, and with his friend John Coates who ran another London animation studio, TVC. Leigh-on-Sea (), commonly referred to simply as Leigh, is a town and civil parish in the City of Southend-on-Sea, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. In 2011, it had a population of 22,509. Roobarb
''Roobarb'' (also known as ''Roobarb and Custard'') is a British animated children's television series, created by Grange Calveley and originally shown on BBC1 just before the evening news. Each cartoon, written by Calveley and directed by Bob Godfrey, was about five minutes long. Thirty episodes were made, and the show was first shown on 21 October 1974. The theme is that of the friendly rivalry between Roobarb, a green dog with an overactive imagination, and Custard, the mischievous laconic pink cat from next door. The narration of the series was provided by the actor Richard Briers. On 17 February 2013, Briers died, followed four days later by animator Godfrey. Original series Roobarb is a green dog, and Custard is a pink cat. Roobarb is always involved in some kind of misadventure which he approaches with unbounded enthusiasm. Gerald Potterton
Gerald Potterton (8 March 1931 – 23 August 2022) was a British–Canadian director, writer, producer and animator. He is best known for directing the cult classic '' Heavy Metal'' and his animation work on '' Yellow Submarine''. Potterton was nominated three times for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film: as director on the National Film Board of Canada animated shorts ''My Financial Career'' and ''Christmas Cracker'', and as producer for '' The Selfish Giant''. Personal life Born in London, Potterton attended the Hammersmith Art School. He emigrated from England to live in Canada in 1955. Potterton lived in Cowansville, Quebec, Canada, where he was involved in the production of live and animated motion pictures. Richard Edmund Williams (March 19, 1933 – August 16, 2019) was a Canadian-British animator, voice actor, director, and writer, best known for serving as animation director on ''Who Framed Roger Rabbit'' (1988), for which he won two Academy Awards, and for his unfinished feature film ''The Thief and the Cobbler'' (1993).
