Jack Shepherd (actor)
Jack Shepherd (born 29 October 1940) is an English actor, playwright, theatre director, saxophone player and jazz pianist. He is known for his television roles, most notably the title role in Trevor Griffiths' series about a young Labour MP '' Bill Brand'' (1976), and the detective drama '' Wycliffe'' (1993β1998). His film appearances include ''All Neat in Black Stockings'' (1969), '' Wonderland'' (1999) and ''The Golden Compass'' (2007). He won the 1983 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a New Play for the original production of '' Glengarry Glen Ross''. Biography Early life Shepherd attended Roundhay School in Leeds and then studied fine art at Kings College, Newcastle University. During his time in Newcastle he was an amateur actor with the People's Theatre. Jack Leroy Shepard (May 13, 1931 β December 31, 1994) was an American professional baseball player, a catcher, who became a successful businessman and philanthropist after retiring from baseball at age 25 following three full seasons in the Major Leagues. A native of Clovis, California, the , Shepard attended Stanford University, graduating in 1953 after serving as the captain of the first Cardinal team (then nicknamed the ''Indians'') to play in the College World Series. He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates upon graduation on June 16 and made his Major League debut three days later against the St. Louis Cardinals at Sportsman's Park, substituting for starting catcher Mike Sandlock and singling in two at bats against Vinegar Bend Mizell. He also made two errors in the field. Dr. Jack Shephard is a fictional character and the protagonist of the ABC television series ''Lost'', played by Matthew Fox. ''Lost'' follows the journey of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 on a mysterious island and their attempts to survive and escape, slowly uncovering more of the much broader island history they are a part of. The character was originally conceived by creator J. J. Abrams, though the direction of storylines owes more to co-creator Damon Lindelof and fellow showrunner Carlton Cuse. ''Queenie's Castle'' is a British sitcom set in early 1970s Leeds, West Yorkshire. The series was made for the ITV by Yorkshire Television and aired from 1970 to 1972.
