William Jack Scott (December 20, 1928 – December 3, 2014) was an American football and basketball coach. He served as the head football coach at Westmar College—later known as Westmar University—in Le Mars, Iowa from 1961 to 1969 and Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico from 1970 to 1977, compiling a career college football coaching record of 100–58–5. Coaching career Scott began his coaching career at the high school level at Willow Lake, South Dakota. Jack Scott (May 12, 1910 – December 30, 2000) was an Irish-born union activist and member of the Communist Party of Canada. He authored numerous books on Canadian labour history and founded the Canada-China Friendship Association. Group Captain Alan John Lance Scott, (29 June 1883 – 16 January 1922) was an officer in the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force during the First World War and the following years. Early life Scott was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 29 June 1883, but moved to in England where he attended Oxford University, from which he graduated with a law degree. He practiced as a barrister in London, and was acquainted with Lord Birkenhead and Winston Churchill. First World War He was originally an officer in the British Army's Sussex Yeomanry, later transferring to the Royal Flying Corps. Scott never became a very good pilot; in fact, in training, he crashed and broke both legs. He continued training on canes, and had to be assisted into the cockpit. However, he was a pugnacious dogfighter whose solo missions sometimes got him into trouble. For instance, on 28 May 1917, he survived being Leutnant Karl Allmenröder's 21st victory. Jack "Peter" Hardiman Scott (2 April 1920 – 15 September 1999) was an English journalist, broadcaster and writer. He served as the BBC's first political editor, from 1970 to 1975. During his time at the BBC, he reported on, and grew close to, four prime ministers: Harold Macmillan, Alec Douglas-Home, Harold Wilson and Edward Heath. Career After working on various provincial newspapers, Hardiman Scott joined the BBC in 1950 as an assistant news editor in Birmingham. In 1954 he became a home affairs correspondent in London before being appointed to the new post of political correspondent in 1960. In 1962 he interviewed the leader of the Labour Party, Hugh Gaitskell, on the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jack Scott (b. Scranton, Pennsylvania, March 3, 1942- d. Oakland, California February 6, 2000) was an American political activist known for his concern with exploitation of athletes and race relations in sport, the sociology of sport, his association with the Radical Sports Movement of the 1970s, and for involvement with Patty Hearst. Education Scott graduated from Syracuse University in 1966, studied at Stanford, where he was a competitive sprinter. There he met Beverly McGee, known as "Mickie," with whom he went to Berkeley. He later said that he went there as a "Goldwater Republican," but was radicalized by a protest against the draft in which demonstrators were injured by police. He received his PhD in education from the University of California, Berkeley. Jack Scott (born Giovanni Domenico Scafone Jr.; January 24, 1936 – December 12, 2019) was a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. He was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011 and was called "undeniably the greatest Canadian rock and roll singer of all time." Career Scott spent his early childhood in Windsor, Ontario, across the river from Detroit, Michigan. When he was 10, his family moved to Hazel Park, a Detroit suburb. He grew up listening to hillbilly music and was taught to play the guitar by his mother, Laura. As a teenager, he pursued a singing career and recorded as "Jack Scott". John Scott (9 November 1923 – 11 November 2008) was a British television weatherman who appeared for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 during a 20-year broadcasting career. Early life He attended Spennymoor Grammar School in Spennymoor. He went to Nottingham Technical College (which eventually became Nottingham Trent University), leaving in 1941. In 1941, aged 17, Scott joined the Met Office, later joining the Royal Air Force and serving in Sullom Voe, Malta and North Africa during and after World War II. In the 1950s and 1960s he worked at RAF Watnall (now called the Nottingham Weather Centre), and in Nairobi, Kenya, and at RAF Uxbridge. Broadcasting Jack Scott made his television debut in May 1969 as the BBC's twentieth weather forecaster; he stayed with them until his retirement in 1983. Currently, a scholar in residence at Claremont Graduate University, Scott earlier served as president at two California community colleges, member of the California State Assembly and California State Senate and Chancellor of the California Community Colleges System.
