Jack Reed (baseball)
John Burwell Reed (February 2, 1933 – November 10, 2022) was an American professional baseball player, an outfielder over all or parts of three seasons (1961–1963) with the New York Yankees. Reed was a member of the 1961 and 1962 World Series champion Yankees, although he did not appear in the latter series. An alumnus of the University of Mississippi, Reed's primary role for the Yanks was as a late-inning defensive replacement for injury-riddled star outfielder Mickey Mantle. For this reason, he was popularly known as Mantle's " caddie." Reed threw and batted right-handed; he was listed as tall and . He spent his entire professional career in the Yankee organization as a player (1953–1955; 1958–1964) and minor league manager (1965–1967). John Reed (journalist)
John "Jack" Silas Reed (October 22, 1887 – October 17, 1920) was an American journalist, poet, and communist activist. Reed first gained prominence as a war correspondent during the Mexican Revolution for '' Metropolitan'' and World War I for ''The Masses''. He is best known for his coverage of the October Revolution in Petrograd, Russia, which he wrote about in his 1919 book ''Ten Days That Shook the World''. Reed supported the Soviet takeover of Russia, even briefly taking up arms to join the Red Guards in 1918. He hoped for a similar Communist revolution in the United States, and co-founded the short-lived Communist Labor Party of America in 1919. He died in Moscow of spotted typhus in 1920. At the time of his death he may have soured on the Soviet leadership, but he was given a hero's burial by the Soviet Union, and is one of only three Americans buried at the Kremlin Wall Necropolis. Jack Raymond Reed Sr. (May 19, 1924 – January 27, 2016) was an American businessman and politician. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, he served in the United States Army during World War II and earned degrees from Vanderbilt University and New York University before returning home to help run his family's retail business. He later assumed control over their department store after his father's death in 1956. Active in local civic affairs, he chaired the Mississippi Economic Council from 1963 to 1964 and became a vocal proponent for public education. Appointed to the Mississippi Board of Education in 1984, he chaired the body until he decided to run for the office of governor of Mississippi in 1987 as a moderate Republican. Reed lost the general election but performed better than any Republican gubernatorial candidate had in Mississippi in the 20th century to that point. Jack Reid (born 1925) was a Canadian watercolour artist. Born in Toronto, Reid was self-taught, beginning as a graphic artist until becoming a full-time painter in 1970. He taught workshops and demonstrations and toured worldwide began in 1971, teaching over 11,000 students by the 1990s. Reid enjoyed a successful career over six decades, with some paintings entering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's personal collection at Windsor Castle. In 1992, he was awarded the Commemorative Medal by the Canadian government for his contribution to Canadian art and was honoured Arts Person of the Year in his hometown of Brampton. He exhibited in London, England with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. ''Taggart'' is a Scottish detective fiction television programme created by Glenn Chandler, who wrote many of the episodes, and made by STV Studios for the ITV network. It originally ran as the miniseries "Killer" from 6 until 20 September 1983, before a full series was commissioned that ran from 2 July 1985 until 7 November 2010.
