Jack R. Gage
Jack Robert Gage (January 13, 1899 – March 14, 1970) was an American author, educator, and politician who served as the List of governors of Wyoming, 25th Governor of Wyoming as a member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party. Early life and education Jack Robert Gage was born on January 13, 1899, in McCook, Nebraska to Will Vernon and LaVaughn Gage. In 1905, the family moved to Worland, Wyoming where Gage was raised. In 1918, he served in the army during World War I artillery until he was honorably discharged in 1919. In 1924, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming in agriculture. On September 29, 1922, he married Leona Switzer and would later have two sons with her. KWYO
KWYO (1410 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Classic Country music format. Licensed to Sheridan, Wyoming, United States, the station is currently owned by Lovcom, Inc. and features programming from CBS News Radio. All Lovcom stations are located in the Sheridan Media Radio Center, at 1716 KROE Lane on Sheridan's east side. History KWYO signed on the air for the first time on Monday, July 9, 1934 at 7:00pm, becoming Sheridan, Wyoming's first radio station. (KWYO is the second oldest radio station in Wyoming, behind KTWO in Casper, which signed on as KDFN in 1930.) The original studio location was on the second floor of the Carroll's Furniture Store at 340 N. Main. During its early years, KWYO operated only at various times of the day, generally closing down in the afternoon from 1pm to 5pm. 1962 Wyoming Gubernatorial Election
The 1962 Wyoming gubernatorial election took place on November 7, 1962. Incumbent Democratic Governor Jack R. Gage, who ascended to the governorship after his predecessor, John J. Hickey, appointed himself to the U.S. Senate in 1961, ran for re-election. After beating back a strong challenge from former Secretary of State William M. Jack in the Democratic primary, he then faced Republican nominee Clifford Hansen, the President of the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees and a former Teton County Commissioner. The year proved poor for Wyoming Democrats, as Hansen handily defeated Gage and as Senator Hickey was defeated for re-election by former Governor Milward Simpson. Bill Nation
Charles William Nation (May 28, 1925 – April 13, 2022), better known as Bill Nation, was an American politician who served as the 45th and 50th Mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and in the Wyoming House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1966 and election as Laramie County Clerk in 1970. Early life Charles William Nation was born in Lingle, Wyoming on May 28, 1925. During World War II he served as a gunner aboard a destroyer, the USS Schroeder (DD-501), a Fletcher-class destroyer, this was a ship of the United States Navy, named for Rear Admiral Seaton Schroeder. Velma Linford
Velma Linford (May 30, 1907 – May 25, 2002) was an American educator, author, and politician who served as the 12th Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction as a Democrat. Life Velma Isabelle Linford was born on May 30, 1907, in Afton, Wyoming, to John Amasa Linford and Elizabeth Rowland Linford. She attended Star Valley High School where she graduated in 1926 and then attended the University of Wyoming where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1930 and then a master's degree in 1934. From 1933 to 1955 she taught at Laramie High School. In 1946 she wrote "Wyoming: Frontier State" a history textbook meant for junior high school. Clifford Joy "Doc" Rogers (December 20, 1897 – May 18, 1962) was an American politician who served as the 22nd governor of Wyoming from January 3, 1953 until January 3, 1955. Keith Thomson (politician)
Edwin Keith Thomson (February 8, 1919 – December 9, 1960), usually known as Keith Thomson, was a United States representative from Wyoming. A highly decorated World War II veteran, Thomson served three terms in Wyoming's only U.S. House seat. On November 8, 1960, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, but died a month later of a heart attack before taking office. Early life Born in Newcastle, Wyoming, he grew up on a ranch in Crook County and attended public schools in Beulah, Wyoming, and Spearfish, South Dakota. He graduated in 1941 from the University of Wyoming Law School in Laramie. While in law school he met his wife, Thyra Godfrey Thomson, and they were married in 1939.
