Jack Pyle (television Producer)
Jack Pyle (1909-1987) was an American stage magician. Biography Early life He was the third youngest of eight brothers and sisters, all of whom became scholars and professional people including a brigadier general. He was influenced by a long-lost half-brother, a patent medicine salesman known as “Chief Lighthawk” and did his first magic trick at age nine. An undated press clipping reports him performing at a Kiwanis club in Rockport, probably in 1940. A later press clipping reports him in the Navy’s 52nd Defense Battalion in the Marshall Islands in World War II, performing for front line troops under “impossible conditions.”Tops, Vol 8 & 9, Sep. 1978, p. 8 He devised a way to produce a large pig (named Tojo) from thin air, which the natives eventually stole and ate. Circus World Museum
The Circus World Museum is a museum complex in Baraboo, Wisconsin, devoted to circus-related history. The museum features circus artifacts and exhibits and hosts daily live circus performances throughout the summer. It is owned by the Wisconsin Historical Society and operated by the non-profit Circus World Museum Foundation. The museum was the major participant in the Great Circus Parade held from 1963 to 2009. Baraboo is a city in the Midwest and the county seat of Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States. The largest city in the county, Baraboo is the principal city of the Baraboo Micropolitan Statistical Area. Its 2020 population was 12,556. It is situated on the Baraboo River. 52nd Defense Battalion
The 3d Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion (Composite) (3d AAA Bn (Composite)) was an antiaircraft unit in the United States Marine Corps that served during World War II. The battalion was originally formed in 1943 as the 52d Defense Battalion, one of the first African American units in the Marine Corps. Its original mission was to provide air and coastal defense for advanced naval bases. During the war the battalion served as garrison forces on Roi-Namur, Majuro, and Guam. The battalion returned to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina after the war. It was the last of the defense battalions before it was re-designated as the 3d Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in May 1946. The battalion was decommissioned on May 15, 1947. The Hilton Milwaukee City Center is a historic Art Deco-style hotel opened in 1928 and located in the Westown neighborhood of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is owned by the Marcus Corporation, which also owns the Pfister Hotel and the Saint Kate Hotel in Downtown Milwaukee. History The hotel opened in 1928 as the Schroeder Hotel. The International Harvester Company (often abbreviated by IHC, IH, or simply International ( colloq.)) was an American manufacturer of agricultural and construction equipment, automobiles, commercial trucks, lawn and garden products, household equipment, and more. In earlier locations, many entertainers, such as Danny Thomas, Pat Cooper and the comedy team of Martin and Lewis, made their New York debuts at the Copacabana.
