Jack P. Hanlon
John Paul Hanlon (1913–1968) was an Irish Roman Catholic priest and painter. Jack Hanlon was born in Templeogue, Dublin on 6 May 1913. He educated at Belvedere College and went on to study for the priesthood in 1932 at Clonliffe College while also studying at University College Dublin, UCD, and studied painting in Belgium, Spain and he won a scholarship to study in Paris under André Lhote. He completed his clerical training at Maynooth and was ordained priest at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 1939. Hanlon won the Douglas Hyde prize and the Arts Council prize for a painting of a historical subject. Predominantly a watercolourist, he did produce some Oil on canvas painting. During war years he also designed Christmas Cards for Victor Waddington, he had also exhibited in Waddingtons gallery in Dublin prior to its closure. Templeogue
Templeogue () is a southwestern suburb of Dublin in Ireland. It lies between the River Poddle and River Dodder, and is about halfway from Dublin's centre to the mountains to the south. Geography Location The centre of Templeogue is from both the city centre to the north and the Dublin Mountains to the south, and to the coast at Dublin Bay on the Irish Sea. It is above sea level and occupies an area of 534 hectares. Suburbs adjacent to Templeogue are Ballyboden, Ballyroan, Firhouse, Greenhills, Kimmage, Knocklyon, Perrystown, Rathfarnham, Tallaght, and Terenure. Transport The three main routes through the suburb are the R112 regional road (Templeville Road), the R137 regional road (Templeogue Road), and the R817 regional road (Cypress Grove Road and Wainsfort Road).
