Jack Nash (English Cricketer)
Jack Nash (born Albert Nash; 18 September 1873 – 6 December 1956) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace off-break bowler who played for Glamorgan. He was born in Blean and died in Battersea. Originally a member of Cardiff Cricket Club in 1900, he quickly became a regular for the side, taking 12 for 77 in 1903, with his combination of expert spin and medium-pace. Nash left Cardiff in 1911, moved to Lancashire, to play for Haslingden, and later to Cardiff to play for Uddingston, where he stayed until 1919. He made his first-class debut in Glamorgan's first County Championship match, against Sussex in May 1921. At 47 years and 271 days old he was the oldest man ever to make his Championship debut. Blean
Blean is a village and civil parish in the City of Canterbury, Canterbury district of Kent, England. The civil parish is large and is mostly woodland, much of which is ancient woodland. The village, developed village within the parish is scattered along the road between Canterbury and Whitstable, in the middle of the Forest of Blean. The parish of St. Cosmus and St. Damian in the Blean was renamed "Blean" on 1 April 2019. History According to Edward Hasted's 1800 county study, the village was once part of the king's ancient forest of Blean in the Hundred (county division), hundred of Westgate. The name Blean is the dative form of the Old English word ‘blea’ which means rough ground. Therefore the name of the parish means "the church of Saints Cosmas and Damian (sic) in the rough ground." County Championship
The County Championship (referred to as the LV= Insurance County Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the domestic first-class cricket competition in England and Wales and is organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It became an official title in 1890. The competition consists of eighteen clubs named after, and representing historic counties, seventeen from England and one from Wales. The earliest known inter-county match was played in 1709. Sam Lowe
Sam Lowe (19 July 1867 – 29 March 1947) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-bowler. He was born and died in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Lowe made one first-class appearance for Nottinghamshire during the 1894 season, and played Minor Counties cricket for Glamorgan between 1896 and 1902. Lowe's input to the first-class game was minimal, scoring eight runs in the first innings and a duck in the second innings of his only first-class match. Sussex County Cricket Club
Sussex County Cricket Club is the oldest of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Sussex. Its limited overs team is called the Sussex Sharks. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs.
