The following is a list of characters of ''Monk'', an American comedy-drama detective mystery television series, created by Andy Breckman and starring Tony Shalhoub as the titular character, Adrian Monk. Except for two changes, the principal cast of the series remained consistent. For the first three seasons Sharona Fleming was Monk's assistant. She left to remarry her ex-husband in the middle of season three. She was replaced by Natalie Teeger in the episode " Mr. Monk and the Red Herring", and Teeger remained Monk's assistant for the remainder of the series. Stanley Kamel, who portrayed Monk's therapist, Dr. Charles Kroger, died in April 2008, during the production hiatus in between seasons six and seven. Hence, starting with season seven, Monk gets a new therapist, Dr. Neven Bell, who remained for the final two seasons. Adrian Monk is the only character to appear in all 125 episodes. ''Monk'' is an American mystery comedy-drama television series created by Andy Breckman and starring Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk. It originally ran from 2002 to 2009 and is primarily a police procedural series, but also exhibits comic and dramatic tones in its exploration of the main characters' personal lives. The series was produced by Mandeville Films and Touchstone Television in association with Universal Network Television. The series debuted on July 12, 2002, on USA Network. It continued for eight seasons, with the final season concluding on December 4, 2009. The seventh season of ''Monk'' was originally broadcast in the United States on USA Network from July 18, 2008, to February 20, 2009. It consisted of 16 episodes. Tony Shalhoub, Traylor Howard, Ted Levine and Jason Gray-Stanford reprised their roles as the main characters. A DVD of the season was released on July 21, 2009. Crew Andy Breckman continued his tenure as show runner. Executive producers for the season included Breckman, David Hoberman, series star Tony Shalhoub, writer Tom Scharpling and Rob Thompson.
