Jack Mizuha
Jack Hifuo Mizuha (November 5, 1913 – September 7, 1986) was an educator, soldier, and judge. He was a member of the 442nd Infantry Regiment, and served as the Attorney General of Hawaii from 1958 to 1959, a Circuit Court judge from 1959 to 1961, and a justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii from 1961 to 1968. He was a Republican. Early life Mizuha was born on November 5, 1913 in Waihee, Maui to immigrants from Hiroshima, Japan. He graduated from Maui High School and the University of Hawaii, where he studied business and economics. He was a member of the ROTC while he was in school, and ultimately became a lieutenant in the Hawaii National Guard. While studying for his master's degree in education, he worked as a police reporter with Jack Burns. After graduation, Mizuha became a teacher at Waimea High School, where he met his wife, Toshiko Sueoka. They had one child. 442nd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 442nd Infantry Regiment ( ja, 第442歩兵連隊) was an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The regiment is best known as the most decorated in U.S. military history and as a fighting unit composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry (''Nisei'') who fought in World War II. Beginning in 1944, the regiment fought primarily in the European Theatre, in particular Italy, southern France, and Germany. The 442nd Regimental Combat Team (RCT) was organized on March 23, 1943, in response to the War Department's call for volunteers to form the segregated Japanese American army combat unit. More than 12,000 Nisei (second-generation Japanese American) volunteers answered the call. Masaji Marumoto
Masaji Marumoto ( January 27, 1906 – February 10, 1995) was the first Japanese American Justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii. He served from 1956 to 1973. He was the first Japanese American to graduate from Harvard Law School, and the first Japanese American to serve as president of the Hawaii Bar Association. Early life and education Marumoto was born on January 27, 1906, in Honolulu to immigrants from Hiroshima, Japan. He grew up in Kona, and in seventh grade moved back to Honolulu, where he attended McKinley High School and graduated at the top of his class in 1924. Shiro Kashiwa (October 24, 1912 – March 13, 1998) was an American lawyer and judge who was the first Attorney General of Hawaii to be appointed after it became a state in 1959. He served as a judge of the United States Court of Claims, then as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. from 1982 to 1986. He was the first federal judge of Japanese-American descent, the first Asian American judge on the Federal Circuit and was a member of the Jōdo Shinshū sect of Buddhism. Herbert Young Cho Choy (January 6, 1916 – March 10, 2004) was the first Asian American to serve as a United States federal judge and the first person of Korean ancestry to be admitted to the bar in the United States.
