Jack Miller (footballer)
Thomas John Miller (11 March 1875 – 1949) was an English footballer, who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Stoke. Career Miller started with Hednesford Town before joining League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1896. He soon became a regular at left wing for Wolves as they side enjoyed a good spell in the late 1890s finishing in the top ten in three seasons running. The early 1900s saw Wolves finish in mid-table quite often and in 1905 Miller ended his 10-year spell at the club by agreeing to join Staffordshire rivals Stoke. In total Miller had played 269 times for Wolves scoring 49 goals. At Stoke he played 38 times in 1905–06 scoring five goals and made 25 appearances in 1906–07 but Stoke finished bottom of the First Division and were relegated. Hednesford
Hednesford (pronounced ) is a historic market town in the Cannock Chase (district), Cannock Chase district of Staffordshire, England. Cannock Chase is to the north, the town of Cannock to the south and Rugeley to the southwest.The population at the 2011 census was 17,343. It also comprises the civil parish of Hednesford and part of the civil parish of Brindley Heath. History Hednesford was a coal mining community for over a century. This is commemorated in the town centre, where a Davy lamp, Miner's Lamp has been erected, surrounded by a wall with individual bricks giving the names of former miners. The oldest sections of the town surround the hilltop areas of the existing town; however, the lower part of the town became the focal point as the community grew with the mining industry. The 1904–05 season was the 34th season of competitive football in England. Overview Events Stockport County were replaced by Doncaster Rovers in the Second Division. At the end of the 1904–05 season, the First Division was expanded to include 20 teams; Bury and Notts County were elected back into the First Division from the Second Division. Manchester City, the previous season's FA Cup winners, were discovered to have been paying their players up to £6 or £7 per week instead of the legal maximum of £4 per week. The club's influential winger Billy Meredith was accused of bribing Aston Villa player Alex Leake and was faced with an 18-month ban from The Football Association, who further rebuked the club by dismissing five of its directors and banning a total of 17 players from ever playing for the club again.
