Jack MacDougall
Jack MacDougall (born 1953) is a former politician in New Brunswick, Canada. He was owner-operator of a taxi business in Saint John, New Brunswick which he sold prior to 1982. In 1982, he led a 1-year, $1 million fundraising campaign to save the Imperial Theatre. He worked for the Liberal Party of New Brunswick from 1984 to 1999. In 2002, he was an unsuccessful candidate for leader of the party. In August 2008, he was hired by the Green Party of Canada as Maritimes Organizer. On September 24, 2009, MacDougall was acclaimed the leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick. In the 2010 general election, the Green Party polled 4.5 per cent of the vote and elected no members. In his own riding of Fredericton-Nashwaaksis, MacDougall finished third with 9.4 per cent of the vote. He resigned as leader on September 12, 2011. Saint John is a seaport city of the Atlantic Ocean located on the Bay of Fundy in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. Saint John is the oldest incorporated city in Canada, established by royal charter on May 18, 1785, during the reign of King George III. Imperial Theatre, Saint John
The Imperial Theatre, in Saint John, New Brunswick, was designed by Philadelphia architect Albert Westover and built in 1912 by the Imperial Theatre by the Keith-Albee-Orpheum Corporation vaudeville chain of New York City and their Canadian subsidiary, the Saint John Amusements Company Ltd. It opened to the public on September 19, 1913. One of Canada's first comedy troupes, The Dumbbells staged several of their first shows there. Many early stars of silent film had their films played in the Imperial, such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Fatty Arbuckle, Greta Garbo, and Harold Lloyd. The theatre was designed as a modern adaptation of the Italian Renaissance, and was used both for live vaudeville acts as well as "talkies". The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The party descended from both the Confederation Party and the Anti-Confederation Party whose members split into left-wing and right-wing groups following the creation of Canada as a nation in 1867. The current political organization emerged in the 1880s to serve as an organization housing the supporters of Premier Andrew G. It is a registered Green political party in New Brunswick, Canada. A founding convention was held on November 15, 2008, in Moncton where the membership adopted a constitution, and a charter of principles to guide the development of policies and platforms. The 2010 New Brunswick general election was held on September 27, 2010, to elect 55 members to the 57th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, the governing house of the province of New Brunswick, Canada.
