Jack Hunn
Sir Jack Kent Hunn (24 August 1906 – 14 June 1997) was a New Zealand civil servant. Hunn served as Secretary of Defence, Secretary of Maori Affairs, Secretary of Justice, and Chairman of the Fire Service Commission. Early life Hunn was born in Masterton, and attended Wairarapa High School, before joining the Public Trust Office as a cadet. He attended Victoria University of Wellington, where he gained an LLM. Hunn joined the New Zealand Public Service Association, PSA in 1940, and worked on the executive, and became New Zealand Public Service Association President in 1945. In 1946, Hunn stepped down to become an Inspector of the Public Service Commission, working within Government to resolve public sector industrial issues. He became a commissioner in 1954, and expanded his knowledge across a broad range of the public service. Public Trust Office
The Public Trust Office is a heritage-listed office building at 19–21 O'Connell Street, Sydney, Australia. It was designed by Ross & Rowe and built from 1926. It is also known as the Public Trustee. It was originally known as Rofe Chambers. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The Public Trust Office, first known as "Rofe Chambers", was designed in 1924 by M. E. Ross & Rowe for the law firm Alfred Rofe & Sons. It originally housed a branch of the Australian Bank of Commerce Insurance Brokers' offices on the ground floor. Above were offices for professionals including engineers and accountants. The basement was used as a staff dining room. Alterations, generally by the original architects, were carried out on floors five, six and seven between 1926 and 1931. Jack Lewin
John Philip Lewin (3 June 1915 – 4 May 1990) was a New Zealand public servant, unionist and lawyer. Biography Early life and career Lewin was born in Masterton, New Zealand, on 3 June 1915. His family experienced hardships after his father was prematurely retired from his job at the Railway Department after organising employees against salary reductions. He was educated at Palmerston North Boys' High School before leaving school to briefly work in commerce and journalism before beginning a career in the civil service. In 1934 he gained employment at the Census and Statistics Office at Wellington before later working in the State Fire Insurance Office at Palmerston North, the head office of the Department of Labour, and in 1943 as an inaugural employee at the new Rehabilitation Board. New Zealand Fire Service Commission
The New Zealand Fire Service Commission was the overseeing authority controlling the New Zealand Fire Service and the New Zealand National Rural Fire Authority. A Crown entity reporting to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Commission was established by the New Zealand Fire Service Act 1975. The Commission was dissolved on 30 June 2017 when it was replaced by the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Board. The Commission was composed of five members appointed by the Governor-General.
