Jack Harvey (born John Joseph Harvey; September 16, 1881 – November 9, 1954) was an American film actor, director and screenwriter, noted for his short films of the silent period. Among his directed films are ''A Dog's Love'' (1914) (the first of many collaborations with Shep (Thanhouser Collie), Shep, a well-trained Collie of the Thanhouser Company), ''When Fate Rebelled'' (1915), ''Fairy Fern Seed'' (1915), ''Kaiser's Finish'' (1918) and his last film ''No Babies Wanted'' (1928), accredited as John J. Harvey. He continued to act, but most of his roles after the 1920s were very minor and uncredited in films such as ''Cardinal Richelieu (film), Cardinal Richelieu'' (1935) and ''Anchors Aweigh (film), Anchors Aweigh'' (1945). He also continued to write for films until his death in 1954, the last of which was ''City Beneath the Sea (1953 film), City Beneath the Sea'' (1953). Jack Harvey VC (24 August 1891 – 15 August 1940) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Harvey was a 27-year-old private in the 1/22nd (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (The Queen's), British Army during the First World War. On 2 September 1918 north of Peronne, France, when the advance of his company was held up by machine gun fire, Private Harvey dashed forward a distance of 50 yards alone, through the English barrage and in the face of heavy enemy fire. He rushed a machine gun post, shooting two of the team and bayoneting another. He then destroyed the gun and continued his way along the enemy trench. He single-handedly rushed an enemy dugout which contained 37 Germans and compelled them to surrender. Jack Harvey (September 9, 1907 – March 13, 1986) was a politician in Wisconsin. Biography Harvey was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Later, he moved to Racine, Wisconsin. Career Harvey went to the University of Wisconsin–Madison and worked in factories and restaurants. He served on the Racine Common Council. Harvey was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1937 to 1940 on the Wisconsin Progressive Party ticket. Harry 'Jack' Harvey (1907–1996) was an English greyhound trainer. He was the UK champion trainer and two times winner of the English Greyhound Derby. Early life Born near Rugby, Warwickshire, he attended his first coursing meeting with three of his own dogs which he slipped himself aged just ten years old. Harvey stayed in Paris in 1927 picking a job up as a greyhound trainer there before returning the following year. Harvey became an assistant trainer to Jack Chadwick at the opening of White City in 1927. Career His first trainers licence was at Belle Vue Stadium before he moved to Harringay Stadium in the early thirties. It was whilst attached to Harringay that he won the 1934 English Greyhound Derby with Davesland. After building a large kennel he joined Wembley in 1937. Jack Harvey (basketball)
Jack Arthur Harvey (August 6, 1918 – November 21, 1981) was an All-American basketball forward/center at the University of Colorado from 1937 to 1940. As a senior in 1939–40, Harvey became the first Buffaloes basketball player to earn a Consensus All-American distinction when he garnered a Second Team accolade. He had also been recognized as a First Team All-American in 1939, although he was not a consensus selection. Harvey led the Buffaloes to two conference championships and a trip to the NCAA tournament his senior season. During his junior and senior years, Colorado posted a 31–8 record and spent some time as the #1 team in the country. No records of Harvey's scoring and rebounding statistics have ever been found. He was known as a tenacious defender, however, which is probably a leading cause for his All-American distinction in 1939 and 1940. Sir Ian James Rankin (born 28 April 1960) is a Scottish crime writer, best known for his Inspector Rebus novels. Early life Rankin was born in Cardenden, Fife. His father, James, owned a grocery shop, and his mother, Isobel, worked in a school canteen. He was educated at Beath High School, Cowdenbeath. His parents were horrified when he then chose to study literature at university, as they had expected him to study for a trade. Encouraged by his English teacher, he persisted and graduated in 1982 from the University of Edinburgh, where he also worked on a doctorate on Muriel Spark but did not complete it. He has taught at the university and retains an involvement with the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. Jack Harvey (born 15 April 1993) is a British auto racing driver who competes full-time in the NTT IndyCar Series, driving the No. 30 Chevrolet for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and a former member of McLaren's Young Driver Programme. Career Karting Harvey began his kart racing career at the age of nine. In 2006 he won the MSA Super One British title by a single point, and the Kartmasters British Grand Prix, both in the ICA-J class. In 2007 Harvey became a driver for the Italian Maranello team, in the newly created KF3 category.
