Jack Egan (Cork Hurler)
Thomas John "Jack" Egan (22 July 1904 – 31 January 1984) was an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Cork senior team. Born in Cork city, Egan initially played hurling for the local Blackpool club Glen Rovers. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Cork junior team. He joined the senior panel during the 1926 championship. Egan won two All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship medals and two Munster Senior Hurling Championship. At club level, Egan won several championship medals in the different grades with Glen Rovers and later Blackrock. He retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1928 championship. Glen Rovers GAA
Glen Rovers is a Cork (city), Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Blackpool, Cork, Ireland. The club was founded in 1916 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. They were Cork senior hurling champions in 2015 and 2016, having won their first title in 26 years in 2015. They retained the championship in 2016, when they beat Erin's Own in the final. Only Blackrock have won more Cork senior hurling championships. Hurling Colours In the early days of the club, its colours were green, white and gold. The Easter Rising and the execution of the leaders took place in the same year the Glen was founded. Dohenys GAA
Dohenys is a Gaelic Athletic Association club, fielding Gaelic football and Hurling teams in the town of Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland. It won its only Cork Senior Club Football Championship in 1897. Other titles won include 2 Cork Intermediate Football Championships in 1972 and 1995, and 3 Cork Junior Football Championships in 1935, 1966, and 1993. In 2007, the club won its first ever county hurling championship when it won the Cork Junior B Hurling Championship. The club is part of the Carbery division of Cork. The Sam Maguire Cup which is presented to the All-Ireland winning football team each year is named after Dunmanway's most famous son, Sam Maguire who is buried in St. Mary's Graveyard. Munster Junior Hurling Championship
The Munster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Munster Council. The winners of the Munster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition has been suspended and is unlikely to be re-established. In the years between 1961 and 1973 Kerry represented Munster in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1928 was the 42nd series of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Cork won the championship, beating Galway 6-12 to 1-0 in the final. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1926
The 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 40th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter county, inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 18 April 1926 and ended on 24 October 1926. The championship was won by Cork GAA, Cork who secured the title following a 4-6 to 2-0 defeat of Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 8th All-Ireland title. Tipperary GAA, Tipperary were the 1925 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, defending champions but were defeated by Cork in the Munster final. Michael Egan (Irish Politician)
Michael Egan (28 February 1866 – 3 March 1947) was an Irish trade unionist and politician. A coach-builder by trade, his public career started when he was comparatively young, and he became an advocate of the workers of Cork and a driving force in establishing and maintaining trade unionism in the city — often against strong opposition. For several years he was chairman of the Cork Workers Council, and was vice-president and then president of the Cork United Trades from 1904 to 1907, and again in 1913. In 1908 he was elected to the Cork Corporation, and was active locally on the portfolios of Law, Finance, and Public Works. He was a member of the National Executive of the Irish Trade Union Congress and Labour Party, and represented the labour movement on the Anti-Conscription Committee which sat in Dublin during World War I with fellow members Éamon de Valera, Arthur Griffith and John Dillon. All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was a hurling competition organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland. The competition was originally contested by the second teams of the strong counties, and the first teams of the weaker counties. In the years from 1961 to 1973 and from 1997 until now, the strong counties have competed for the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition was then restricted to the weaker counties. The competition was discontinued after 2004 as these counties now compete for the Nicky Rackard Cup instead. From 1974 to 1982, the original format of the competition was abandoned, and the competition was incorporated in Division 3 of the National Hurling League.
