Jack Chambers (linguist)
J. K. "Jack" Chambers (born 12 July 1938 in Grimsby, Ontario) is a Canadian linguist, and a well-known expert on language variation and change, who has played an important role in research on Canadian English since the 1980s; he has coined the terms "Canadian Raising" and "Canadian Dainty", the latter used for Canadian speech that mimics the British, popular till the mid-20th century. He has been a professor of linguistics at the University of Toronto since receiving his a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta in 1970. He has also been a visiting professor at many universities worldwide, including Hong Kong University, University of Szeged, Hungary, University of Kiel in Germany, Canterbury University in New Zealand, the University of Reading and the University of York in the UK. He is the author of the website Dialect Topography, which compiles information about dialectal variation in the Golden Horseshoe region of Ontario, Canada. John Richard Chambers (March 25, 1931 – April 13, 1978) was an artist and filmmaker. Born in London, Ontario, Chambers' painting style shifted from surrealist-influenced to photo-realist-influenced. He used the term "Perceptual Realism" and later " perceptualism" to describe his style. He began working with film in the 1960s, completing six by 1970. Stan Brakhage proclaimed Chambers' '' The Hart of London'' as "one of the greatest films ever made." Biography Born John Richard Chambers in London, Ontario, Chambers signed his name as John until 1970 and thereafter was known as Jack professionally and posthumously. Jack Chambers (footballer)
John Moffatt Chambers (6 December 1901 – 1 July 1983) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was inducted into the Geelong Hall of Fame in 2011. A strong marking ruckman, Chambers was cleared to Geelong in 1924, having been on Essendon's list. Chambers was a half forward flanker in the Geelong team which won the 1925 VFL Grand Final, their first ever premiership. In 1926 Chambers represented Victoria in an interstate match against Western Australia in Perth. Chambers kicked a career best 28 goals in 1928, from 18 games, to finish as Geelong's leading goal-kicker. Jack Chambers (born 10 October 1988) is a dancer, singer, actor and choreographer, from Brisbane, Australia. He is best known for winning the first season of ''So You Think You Can Dance Australia'' in 2008. Early life Chambers started dance lessons at Brisbane's Julie-Ann Lucas School of Dance at the age of three and continued there until he was 17. He combined this training with acting and singing studies. Theatre Chambers' career took off at the age of 10 when he was cast in his first professional musical, the stage production of ''The Sound of Music'', playing Kurt Von Trapp at the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane. Jack was also part of the amateur theatre community in Brisbane from the age of ten, working with companies such as Ocean Theatre Company and Queensland Musical Theatre. Jack Chambers (born 21 November 1990) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who has served as a Minister of State attending cabinet since July 2020, and served as Government Chief Whip from July 2020 to December 2022. He has been a Minister of State at various departments since June 2020. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin West constituency since the 2016 general election. Early and personal life Chambers was born in Galway in 1990, but has lived in Dublin since early childhood. He resides in the Castleknock area of west Dublin. His father, Frank Chambers, from Newport, County Mayo, is a consultant at the Mater Private Hospital, and was a political ally of Brian Lenihan Jnr.
