John Francis Burns (November 15, 1933 – January 27, 2020) was an American comedian, actor, voice actor, writer, and producer. During the 1960s, he was part of two comedy partnerships, first with George Carlin and later with Avery Schreiber. By the 1970s, he had transitioned to working behind the camera as a writer and producer on such comedy series as ''The Muppet Show'' and ''Hee Haw''. Biography Burns enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952. It wasn't long before Burns realized a military life was not for him: "the first week of boot camp changed my mind." He served in Korea, rose to the rank of sergeant, and was discharged around 1954. Burns began his comedy career in 1959, when he partnered with George Carlin; both were working for radio station KXOL in Fort Worth, Texas. Jack Charles Burns (born January 3, 1949) is a former American football coach whose career spanned 30 years at both the collegiate and professional levels. He served as an assistant coach in the National Football League (NFL) for 15 seasons, including stints with the Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, and Atlanta Falcons. John Irving Burns (August 31, 1907 – April 18, 1975), nicknamed "Slug", was an American first baseman, coach and scout in Major League Baseball who played for the St. Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers from 1930 to 1936. A native of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Burns stood tall and weighed in his playing days and batted and threw left-handed. Playing career Known as "Slug", or "Slugger" on the Cambridge sandlots, Burns initially pursued factory work after high school, and played for his employer's baseball team. In 1927, he played for the Chatham-Harwich club in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he was described as "the hardest hitting first baseman in the league." Burns' professional playing career began in 1928 for the Brockton Shoemakers of the New England League. John Burns (7 January 1859 – 18 December 1927), a native of St Andrews, was a Scottish professional golfer for part of his life. He was the son of an Irish labourer, and started earning his living as a plasterer. However, there is reference to him being a professional golfer in the minutes of the St Andrews Golf Club in October 1885. Burns moved to Warwick, England in 1887 to become the golf professional and greenskeeper at the newly formed Warwickshire Golf Club (now known as Warwick Golf Centre), the first golf club in Warwickshire. Burns returned to Scotland in October 1888 to become the winner of the Open Championship, which was held at the Old Course at St Andrews. The £8 prize of his major championship title accomplishment did not make him a fortune. He returned to his job in Warwick and was involved in the creation of the neighbouring golf course in Kenilworth in 1890. ''Meet the Parents'' is a 2000 American comedy film written by Jim Herzfeld and John Hamburg and directed by Jay Roach. It chronicles a series of unfortunate events that befall a good-hearted but hapless nurse ( Ben Stiller as Greg Focker) while visiting his girlfriend's parents (Robert De Niro as Jack Byrnes and Blythe Danner as Dina Byrnes).
