Jack Barrett (hurler)
John Barrett (1 January 1911 – 16 February 1979) was an Irish hurling, hurler, selector and Administrator (business), administrator. His career included All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland Championship victories as a player and later as a selector with the Cork senior hurling team. Playing career Kinsale Barrett first played for the Kinsale GAA, Kinsale club at adult level in the late 1920s. He claimed his first major silverware with the club in 1930 when Kinsale defeated Tracton GAA, Tracton by 6-04 to 3-03 to secure the South East Junior A Hurling Championship, South East Junior Championship. After surrendering the title to Passage West GAA, Passage the following year, Barrett won a second divisional championship winners' medal in 1933 after a 5-04 to 1-02 victory over Rochestown GAA, Rochestown. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. It is the most prestigious competition in Cork hurling. Introduced in 1887 as the Cork Senior Hurling Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to senior-ranking club teams, with its winner reckoned as the Cork county champion. 1939 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1939 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 53rd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 7 May 1939 and ended on 3 September 1939. Dublin entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Kilkenny in the Leinster final. The All-Ireland final was played on 3 September 1939 at Croke Park in Dublin, between Kilkenny and Cork, in what was their first meeting in a final in nine years. Kilkenny won the match by 2-07 to 3-03 to claim their 12th championship title overall and a first title since 1935. The 1939 All-Ireland final remains one of the most iconic of all time. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1934 was the 48th series of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Ireland's premier hurling knock-out competition. Limerick won the championship, beating Dublin 5-2 to 2-6 in a replay of the final. Format The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was run on a provincial basis as usual.
