Jack Barnes (Australian Footballer)
John Robert Barnes (20 May 1905 – 6 October 1999) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Sydney Swans, South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1920's. Born in Williamstown, Victoria, Williamstown, Barnes was used mostly as a forward and kicked 34 goals in 1928, including a bag of six against Geelong at Lake Oval. His son Ken played at South Melbourne in the 1960's. Barnes also represented Victoria cricket team, Victoria in a first-class cricket match in 1930 as a right-handed batsman. Playing against Tasmania at the MCG, Barnes batted in the middle order and made 51. It would be his only innings at first-class level. Fellow VFL footballers Stuart King and Heinrich Schrader (sportsman), Heinrich Schrader also played in that match for Victoria. Williamstown is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Hobsons Bay local government area. Williamstown recorded a population of 14,407 at the 2021 census. Heinrich Schrader (sportsman)
Heinrich Christian Schrader (5 December 1893 – 10 June 1980) was an Australian sportsman who played first-class cricket for Victoria and Australian rules football in the Victorian Football League (VFL) with University. Career A Xavier College recruit, Schrader appeared in 13 games and kicked four goals for University in the 1914 VFL season but failed to play in a winning side all year. Much later, in 1930, Schrader made his first-class cricket debut when he was picked as a right-arm medium pace bowler to take on Tasmania at the MCG. He took three wickets in the match and made 42 with the bat, despite coming in at number 11. His second and only other first-class match came a year later against both the same opponents and on the same ground. Schrader took two wickets, including that of fellow dual VFL and cricket representative Laurie Nash. He played for Prahran Cricket Club, and was made life member in 1938. 1925 VFL Season
The 1925 VFL season was the 29th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The league expanded to twelve clubs, with , and all newly admitted from the VFA to increase the league's size to its highest since its inception. The season ran from 2 May until 10 October, and comprised a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Geelong Football Club for the first time, after it defeated by ten points in the 1925 VFL Grand Final.
