Jack Baldwin (chemist)
Sir Jack Edward Baldwin (8 August 1938 – 5 January 2020) was a British chemist. He was a Waynflete Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford (1978–2005) and head of the organic chemistry at Oxford. Education Baldwin was the second son of Frederick C N Baldwin and Olive F Headland. He was educated at Brighton Grammar School and Lewes County Grammar School. He attended Imperial College, London (BSc, DIC, PhD). He received his Ph.D. working under the direction of Sir Derek H.R. Barton, FRS, Nobel Laureate, who described him as his best student. Career and Research After four years on the staff at Imperial College, Baldwin moved to the United States: first to Pennsylvania State University in 1967 and then to MIT in 1970, where he published his most significant work — Baldwin's rules for ring closure reactions. Jack Baldwin (born 30 June 1993) is an English professional association football, footballer who plays as a Defender (association football)#Centre-back, centre-back for club Northampton Town F.C., Northampton Town. Air Marshal Sir John Eustice Arthur Baldwin, (13 April 1892 – 28 July 1975) was a senior officer in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Early life Educated at Rugby School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Baldwin was commissioned into the 8th (King's Royal Irish) Hussars in 1911 and served as a cavalry Officer in the First World War. Military service Baldwin was awarded the Royal Aero Club's Aviator's Certificate no. 971 on 17 November 1914 and became a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps. He was appointed Officer Commanding No. 55 Squadron in October 1916 and Officer Commanding No. 41 Wing in December 1917 before transferring to the Royal Air Force on its formation in 1918. He was appointed Commandant of the Central Flying School in 1928 and served as Aide-de-Camp to King George V from 1931 to 1932. Jack Baldwin (born May 31, 1948 in Marietta, Georgia) is a race car driver. Jack Baldwin is a legend in road racing, with wins in every series that he has competed in, as well as victories at every major race track in the United States during his successful career that has spanned four decades. Jack has won 5 professional Championships and over 30 major pro races that include one Daytona 24 Hour win and two 12 hours of Sebring wins. Jack was invited twice to compete in the prestigious International Race of Champions (IROC) and has driven all types of race cars over the decades. 2013 was his 25th running of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. John David Baldwin (July 31, 1921 – September 13, 1989) was an American football player who played at the center and linebacker positions. He played college football for Centenary in Louisiana and professional football for the New York Yankees, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and Edmonton Eskimos. Early years Baldwin was born in 1921 in Clyde, Texas. He attended and played football at Gladewater High School in Gladewater, Texas. He also set a record in the javelin throw while attending Gladewater High. College football and military service Baldwin played college football for Centenary in 1940 and 1941.
