John Henry "Jabo" Starks (; October 26, 1937Sources vary as to his year of birth. According to his obituary, published by Mobile Register, Starks was born on October 26, 1937; The New York Times gives 1938 – May 1, 2018), sometimes spelled Jab'o, was an American funk and blues drummer best known for playing with James Brown as well as other notable musicians including Bobby Bland and B.B. King. A self-taught musician, he was known for his effective and clean drum patterns. He was one of the originators of funk drumming, and is one of the most sampled drummers. Life and career Starks was born in Jackson, Alabama, to Prince Starks and Ruth Watkins. One of five children, he was nicknamed "Jabo" as a newborn. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama. The Jabo language is a Kru language spoken by the Jabo people of Liberia. They have also been known in the past as the Gweabo. Jabo Oshevire Michael Ibehre (born 28 January 1983) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward. Ibehre made over 200 appearances for Leyton Orient between 2000 and 2008, before moving onto Walsall. A successful season with Walsall resulted in a move to Milton Keynes Dons in 2009. Ibehre's spell with the Dons saw him in and out of the first-team as he was sent out on loan on three occasions with Southend United, Stockport County and Colchester United. After an impressive loan stint with Colchester, Ibehre permanently signed for the U's in January 2013. Harvey J. "Jabo" Jablonsky (January 10, 1909 – April 4, 1989) was a United States Army major general, business executive and American football player. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was also elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1978. Early life Jablonsky was born January 10, 1909, in Missouri, US, to mother Eugenia from England, and father Arthur from Germany. His parents did not have their own home; instead they lived along with Arthur's parents (Jablonsky's grandparents) in their home in St. Louis County. Missouri. Jabo Williams (possible 1895 – 1953 or 1954) was an American boogie-woogie and blues pianist and songwriter. His total recorded output was a mere eight sides, which included his two best-known "stunningly primitive" songs, "Pratt City Blues" and "Jab's Blues" (1932). Details of his life outside of music are scanty. Career It is supposed that Williams, who was African-American, was born in Pratt City, a neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, but this is based exclusively on the mention of that location in his recording of "Pratt City Blues".
