Jabbar Savalan
Jabbar Savalan (born c. 1991) is an Azerbaijani blogger and political activist. On 4 May 2011, he was sentenced to two and half years in prison on charges of dealing drugs. The Azerbaijani government defended the ruling, but the European parliament and several human rights groups such as Amnesty International alleged the charges were fabricated and part of a pattern of framing government dissidents to silence them. He received a presidential pardon on 26 December 2011. Involvement in protests A student at Sumgait State University, Savalan became active in the youth wing of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), the nation's primary opposition party to the continued rule of President Ilham Aliyev, son of previous president Heydar Aliyev. With this group, he participated in an anti-government rally on 20 January; he also re-posted on Facebook an article from a Turkish newspaper that had criticized the president. Baku
Baku (, ; az, Bakı ) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Bakhtiyar Hajiyev
Bakhtiyar Ilyas oglu Hajiyev ( az, Bəxtiyar İlyas oğlu Hacıyev; born c. 1982) is an Azerbaijani activist and blogger who served a prison sentence from 2011 to 2012 on charges of evading military service. His imprisonment was protested by numerous human rights organizations. Background Hajiyev graduated from the undergraduate program on applied mathematics of Baku State University, Baku, Azerbaijan, dissatisfied on it he then preferred for his master of science program to enter and graduate from Khazar University, Baku, Azerbaijan, then John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard for master of art program in 2009.
