The J Award of 2012 is the eighth annual J Awards, established by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's youth-focused radio station Triple J. The announcement comes at the culmination of Ausmusic Month (November). For the fifth year, three awards were presented; ''Australian Album of the Year'', ''Australian Music Video of the Year'' and ''Unearthed Artist of the Year''. Winners were announced on 23 November 2012. Who's eligible? Any Australian album released independently or through a record company, or sent to Triple J in consideration for airplay, is eligible for the J Award. The 2012 nominations for ''Australian Album of the Year'' and ''Australian Music Video of the Year'' were selected from releases received by Triple J between November 2011 and October 2012. Regular John
Regular John are an Australian Psychedelic Rock band based in Sydney, NSW. The group consists of Ryan A (guitar, vocals, synths), Caleb Goman (bass, vocals), Ryan McDonald (drums) and Miles Devine (guitar). Their first EP Marrickville 2204 was released in 2007 and followed by the single Devils Melody. Both were released on Sydney based independent label Chatterbox Records. The Marrickville EP was named after the Sydney suburb where the group lived and rehearsed for a time. A bootleg of home recordings entitled The Ivanhoe Demos also exists and contains early versions of some tracks from The Peaceful Atom is a Bomb. In May, 2009, they released their debut album The Peaceful Atom is a Bomb on Difrnt Music. The album was produced by Tim Powles of The Church and recorded at his Spacejunk Studios. Wouter André "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), better known by his stage name Gotye ( ), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. The name "Gotye" is a pronunciation respelling of "Gauthier", the French cognate of his Dutch given name "Wouter". Gotye has released three studio albums independently and one album featuring remixes of tracks from his first two albums. Innerspeaker
''Innerspeaker'' is the debut studio album by Australian musical project Tame Impala. Recorded at a remote beach shack in Western Australia during the winter of 2009, the album was released on 21 May 2010 by Modular Recordings. ''Innerspeaker'' was acclaimed by critics for its reminiscence of 1960s psychedelic rock. The album peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Charts and was certified platinum in the country. Parkway Drive is an Australian metalcore band from Byron Bay, New South Wales, formed in 2003. ''I Awake'' is the fourth studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko, released in Australia on 26 October 2012. At the J Awards of 2012, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year. Sarah Elizabeth Blaskow (born 23 September 1976), known professionally as Sarah Blasko, is an Australian singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. The Presets
The Presets are an Australian electronic music duo of Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, keyboards). Formed in 2003 and signed to Modular Recordings, Modular Records, The Presets released two EPs (''Blow Up (EP), Blow Up'', ''Girl and the Sea'') in advance of their debut album, ''Beams (The Presets album), Beams'', released in 2005 to positive critical response.
