J Awards Of 2010
The J Award of 2010 is the sixth annual J Awards, established by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's youth-focused radio station Triple J. The announcement comes at the culmination of Ausmusic Month (November). For the third year, three awards were presented; ''Australian Album of the Year'', ''Australian Music Video of the Year'' and ''Unearthed Artist of the Year''. The announcement occurred on 30 November 2010. Who's eligible? Any Australian album released independently or through a record company, or sent to Triple J in consideration for airplay, is eligible for the J Award. The 2010 nominations for ''Australian Album of the Year'' and ''Australian Music Video of the Year'' were selected from releases received by Triple J between November 2009 and October 2010. Richard In Your Mind
Richard in Your Mind are an Australian psychedelic pop band from Sydney. They were formed in 2006 by then house-mates Richard Cartwright and Conrad Richters and expanded in 2008 with Pat Torres and Jordy Lane and later adding Brent Griffin (aka SPOD) and Alyx Dennison (from Sydney duo kyü). They released their debut album, ''The Future Prehistoric'', in December 2007 and two years later followed it up with their online only ''Summertime'' EP. Their second album, ''My Volcano'', was released in 2010 and soon followed by third album SUN in 2011. Their latest album Ponderosa was released on 29 August 2014. Musical style Richard in Your Mind have been described as borrowing their sound and style from 60's psychedelic pop, Strawberry Fields era Beatles, and distinctly modern hip hop and electronic influences and recording styles. Heathen Child
"Heathen Child" is the fourth single by alternative rock group Grinderman and first from their second studio album, ''Grinderman 2''. Released on 6 September 2010, the song is the first release from Grinderman in three years and is also the band's first limited edition double a-side single. Background and production Singer Nick Cave spoke of the song with ''Uncut'' magazine, mentioning that "Heathen Child" was "a quest to break from narrative song-writing in to something more impressionistic." On 27 July 2010 the final studio version of the song was previewed on music website Soundcloud by Mute Records. Grinderman
Grinderman was an Australian-American rock band that formed in London, England, in 2006. The band included Nick Cave (vocals, guitar, organ, piano), Warren Ellis (tenor guitar, electric mandolin, violin, viola, guitar, backing vocals), Martyn P. Casey (bass, guitar, backing vocals) and Jim Sclavunos (drums, percussion, backing vocals). Formed as a side project to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the band was originally known as Mini Seeds and was formed by Cave as "a way to escape the weight of The Bad Seeds." The band's name was inspired by a Memphis Slim song, "Grinder Man Blues," which Cave is noted to have started singing during one of the band's early rehearsal sessions. John Hillcoat
John Hillcoat (born 1960) is an Australian-Canadian film director, screenwriter, and music video director. Early life Hillcoat was born in Queensland, Australia, and was raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. As a child, his paintings were featured in the Art Gallery of Hamilton. He attended Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, and was enrolled in the Special Art Program. He was active with the McMaster University Film Board most notably producing an animated short titled "The Finger". Career Hillcoat has often worked with Nick Cave, the band Depeche Mode, and actor Guy Pearce. ''The Road'', his adaptation of the novel by Cormac McCarthy, premiered at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival, and was released in the U.S. in November 2009. His 2012 film, '' Lawless'', competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Hillcoat's film, '' Triple 9'' was released in 2016.
