JTBD Platts
John Thomas Brown Dumelow Platts (23 November 1848 – 6 August 1898) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1871 and 1884. He was a member of the team that played Derbyshire's first match in May 1871. Platts was born to Robert and Alice Platts (née Dumelow) in Chellaston, Derbyshire. In his youth, he worked in the local gypsum mines, and in his spare time would pretend to play cricket by bowling stones at imaginary batsmen. An early game was for Hallam and Staveley in 1861 against an All England Eleven. He was a wheelwright by trade, but by 1868 was a professional at Ipswich School. In 1869 he played for Dudley and also for the Gentlemen of Worcester when he took 8 wickets in an innings. In 1870, Lord Coventry helped raise a subscription for Platts to join the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Chellaston
Chellaston is a suburban village on the southern outskirts of Derby, in Derbyshire, England. History An early mention of Chellaston is thought to be a reference to Ceolarde's hill. This is mentioned in a 1009 charter when nearby land was given to Morcar by Ethelred the Unready. Historically, Chellaston has been part of the Hundred of Repton and Gresley. Derbyshire County Cricket Club In 1872
The 1872 cricket season was the second in which Derbyshire County Cricket Club played first-class matches. The team was captained by Samuel Richardson. Two matches were arranged against Lancashire County Cricket Club and Derbyshire lost both. Derbyshire also played a match against Prince's Club at their ground in Chelsea, which ended in a draw. 1872 season Samuel Richardson was captain in his second season. The season saw the arrival of three Wirksworth players Joseph Flint, George Frost and Richard Allsop. Frost and Allsop were both joiners. William Curgenven, a doctor, who had been party to the club's foundation also made his debut. Hampshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Hampshire. Hampshire teams formed by earlier organisations, principally the Hambledon Club, always had first-class status and the same applied to the county club when it was founded in 1863.
