Jaypee Brothers is a medical publisher based in New Delhi, India. It was included on Beall's list of predatory open-access publishers before the list was taken down in 2017. Overview Founded in 1969, Jaypee-The Health Sciences Publisher publishes books in almost all the areas of health science. Jaypee has more than 4000 titles in its active list, and publishes close to 300 new titles each year. The company has editorial and sales offices in India, London, Panama, and 700 employees. It publishes in 12 languages, and publishes nearly 30 Spanish titles annually from its office in Panama. All Jaypee English language books, videos and journals are also published digitally through its online platform. Beall's List
Beall's List was a prominent list of predatory open-access publishers that was maintained by University of Colorado librarian Jeffrey Beall on his blog ''Scholarly Open Access''. The list aimed to document open-access publishers who did not perform real peer review, effectively publishing any article as long as the authors pay the open access fee. Originally started as a personal endeavor in 2008, Beall's List became a widely followed piece of work by the mid-2010s. Its influence led some publishers on the list to threaten defamation lawsuits against Beall, as well as to lodge official complaints against Beall's work to the University of Colorado. In January 2017, Beall removed the list from his blog, scholarlyoa.com. Predatory publishing, also write-only publishing or deceptive publishing, is an exploitative academic publishing business model that involves charging publication fees to authors without checking articles for quality and legitimacy, and without providing editorial and publishing services that legitimate academic journals provide, whether open access or not. The phenomenon of "open access predatory publishers" was first noticed by Jeffrey Beall, when he described "publishers that are ready to publish any article for payment". James Heilman
James M. Heilman (born ) is a Canadian emergency physician, Wikipedian, and advocate for the improvement of Wikipedia's health-related content. He encourages other clinicians to contribute to the online encyclopedia. With the Wikipedia username Doc James, Heilman is an active contributor to WikiProject Medicine and a volunteer Wikipedia administrator. He was the president of Wikimedia Canada between 2010 and 2013, and founded and was formerly the president of Wiki Project Med Foundation.
