JFK Olimps
JFK Olimps was a Latvian football club, playing in the top division of Latvian football. The club was from the city of Riga. According to a study from January 2011, the club was the youngest team in Europe, with an average age of 19.02 years. History Olimps was founded in 2005 because there were only seven teams in the top division of the Latvian football league. It was made up of young (U-21) players from Skonto-2, Liepajas Metalurgs-2 and Ventspils-2. In the 2005 season they dropped from Virsliga. In 2006 they won 1. līga and returned to Virsliga. Despite finishing last in the 2007 Virslīga season, Olimps retained their place for 2008 thanks to the expansion of the league. In 2007 Olimps got to the Latvian Cup final thus earning a place in the UEFA cup qualifiers for the upcoming season. The team was dissolved in 2012, although legally the club still exists. FK RFS is a professional Latvian football club based in Riga, Latvia. It competes in the Virslīga, the top flight of Latvian football. History RFS were promoted to the Virsliga for 2016 when Skonto FC failed to obtain a license. In 2018, RFS qualified for the UEFA Europa League qualifiers for the first time. In 2019, the club achieved its first-ever honour, the Latvian Cup. It wasn't until 2021–22 that RFS won a European two-legged tie, beating Faroese club KÍ Klaksvík. They went on to beat Hungarian side Puskás Akadémia FC before losing to Belgian club Gent. Later that year, RFS won their first Virsliga and would thus compete in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. 2010 Latvian Higher League ( lv, LMT Virslīga 2010) was the 19th season of top-tier football in Latvia. It began on 9 April 2010 with the first round of games. Liepājas Metalurgs were the defending champions, having won their second league title last season. With the re-expansion of the league to 10 clubs, the format of the competition was altered for the third year in a row. The ten clubs played 18 rounds of matches, once at home and once away, against each of the other nine clubs in the league. After this, another nine rounds of matches were played for a total of 27 matches. The clubs finishing in the first five positions after 18 rounds received the benefit of hosting five of their last nine matches. Latvian Higher League 2009 ( lv, Virslīga) was the 18th season of top-tier football in Latvia. It began on 14 March 2009 with the first round of games and ended on 8 November 2009 with the 36th round of matches. Ventspils were the defending champions. Due to numerous pre-season team changes, such as club mergers and withdrawals, the format of the league was changed. Since there are only 9 clubs that participate in 2009 Virslīga, every team plays 4 times against every other team, what will make every team playing 32 games. Contrary to the previous season, there is not Championship and Relegation pool. Teams Olimps Rīga were relegated after finishing the relegation round in last place. They were replaced by First League champions FK Daugava Riga. Blāzma won the promotion/relegation play-off against Tranzīts Ventspils with 6–1 on aggregate. The 2008 Virslīga season was the 17th Virslīga season. It began on 5 April 2008 with the first round of games and ended on 9 November 2008 with the final matches of the championship and relegation rounds. Ventspils were the defending champions. Season details For the 2008 season the league has expanded to ten clubs, and the fixture format has changed. Due to expansion there was no relegation at the end of the 2007 season, and the top two clubs from the 1. līga 2007 season, champions FK Vindava (from Ventspils), and second placed SK Blāzma (from Rēzekne) were both promoted. From the 2008 season on, the league will be held in two rounds.
