JD Samson
JD Samson (born August 4, 1978), stage name of Jocelyn Samson is an American musician, producer, songwriter and DJ best known as a member of the bands Le Tigre and MEN. Background Samson grew up in Pepper Pike, Ohio, and attended Orange High School. Samson came out as a lesbian at age 15 and is well known for her support of both LGBT and feminist causes. In high school, Samson played field hockey and was involved in her school's gay-straight alliance. Samson graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2000, with a degree in film. While at school, Samson held jobs as a manager of a coffee shop, a campus tour guide, and as a research assistant for her queer-theory professor. Additionally, she co-produced and directed the Sarah Lawrence College Film and Video Festival while at school. ''This Island'' is the third and final album by American dance-punk band Le Tigre. It was released by Universal Records on October 19, 2004. The album was the band's only one for a major label and reached number 130 on the ''Billboard'' 200. As of 2008, the album had sold 90,000 copies. Recording and production Following the conclusion of the ''Feminist Sweepstakes'' touring cycle in 2002, the band envisioned a different approach to their recording. They decided to remove studio deadlines, and instead of going to North Carolina to record material (because New York recording studios were too expensive), the band used their touring money to set up their own individual home studios with Pro Tools in Manhattan, New York, and were switching around hard drives of music while working on the record. Young & Sick
Young & Sick is a Los Angeles and New York City based music and art project. The solo project is the brainchild of Dutch artist Nick van Hofwegen, described as a "double threat" in art and music by the ''Wall Street Journal'', who is responsible for the project's musical composition, production, and performance, as well as all artwork. Young & Sick is currently releasing music with Neon Gold Records and B3Sci Records and was previously signed to Harvest Records. Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist protest and performance art group based in Moscow that became popular for its provocative punk rock music which later turned into a more accessible style. Founded in August 2011, it has had a membership of approximately 11 women. The group staged unauthorized, provocative guerrilla gigs in public places. These performances were filmed as music videos and posted on the internet. The group's lyrical themes included feminism, LGBT rights, opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin and his policies, and Putin's links to the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church. "Off Our Backs" is the second pre-album-release single from MEN's debut album '' Talk About Body''. It was released on November 9, 2010, available on 7" vinyl, 12" vinyl and CD single/ EP. The track had previously been released on June 25, 2009 by "MEN MAKE MUSIC" (self-released) on a digital EP called "Limited Edition Demo" that included four tracks: the main single, two more songs - ''Credit Card Babies'' and ''Simultaneously'' - that would also later appear on Talk About Body, and the ''Jeppe's Money is a Major Issue Remix''. The title of the song is a nod to the feminist magazine of the same name "off our backs". Gossip (or The Gossip) was an American indie rock band formed in Searcy, Arkansas, originally active from 1999 until 2016. For most of their career, the band consisted of singer Beth Ditto, multi-instrumentalist Brace Paine, and drummer Hannah Blilie. The Ladybug Transistor is a Brooklyn-based indie pop group associated with The Elephant Six Collective.
