JCSAT-4 was known as JCSAT-R until it was sold to Intelsat, INTELSAT in 2009 (Intelsat 26). It is a geostationary orbit, geostationary communications satellite designed and manufactured by Hughes Space and Communications Company, Hughes (now Boeing Satellite Development Center, Boeing) on the Boeing 601, HS-601 satellite bus. It was originally ordered by JSAT Corporation, which later merged into the SKY Perfect JSAT, SKY Perfect JSAT Group. It has a mixed Ku band, Ku-band and C band (IEEE), C-band payload and was used as an on orbit spare. JSAT Corporation
JSAT Corporation (JSAT) was the first private Japanese satellite operator, which owned the JSAT satellites, as well as operated and partially owned the N-Star with NTT DoCoMo. Its origins can be traced to the funding of Japan Communications Satellite Company (JCSAT) and Satellite Japan Corporation in 1985. Both companies merged into Japan Satellite Systems Inc. in 1993. In 2000 the company was renamed as JSAT Corporation and was listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. On September 1, 2008, the company was merged into the SKY Perfect JSAT Group. Boeing 601
The Boeing 601 (sometimes referred to as the BSS-601, and previously as the HS-601) is a communications satellite bus designed in 1985 and introduced in 1987 by Hughes Space and Communications Company. The series was extremely popular in the 1990s, with more than 84 purchased by customers globally. The more advanced 601HP derivative (for "high power") was introduced in 1995. Ku Band
The Ku band () is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in the microwave range of frequencies from 12 to 18 gigahertz (GHz).
