Samuel Henry Strong
Sir Samuel Henry Strong (August 13, 1825 – August 31, 1909) was a lawyer and the third Chief Justice of Canada. Life Strong was born in Poole, England, to Samuel Spratt Strong and Jane Elizabeth Gosse. He emigrated to Upper Canada with his family in 1836, settling in Bytown (later known as Ottawa). He studied law in the office of local Ottawa lawyer Augustus Keefer. He was called to the bar in 1849 and established his practice in Toronto. He was elected a bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1860 and was made a QC in 1863. In 1869, Strong was appointed vice-chancellor of the Court of Chancery of Ontario. In 1874 he was appointed to the Ontario Court of Error and Appeal. Following Confederation he advised Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald on the establishment of the Supreme Court of Canada. William Strong (Pennsylvania Judge)
William Strong (May 6, 1808 – August 19, 1895) was an American lawyer, jurist, and politician who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1870 to 1880. Strong previously served as a U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania from 1847 to 1851 and as a justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from 1857 to 1868. He also served on the Commission that adjudicated the disputed presidential election of 1876. Early life Strong was born in Somers, Connecticut and later moved to Pennsylvania. He was the Eldest of eleven children of William Lightbourn Strong, a descendant of Elder John Strong and Harriet (Deming) Strong. He was the brother of Newton Deming Strong and the cousin of U.S. Representative Theron Rudd Strong of New York. (; hbo, סֶלָה, selā) is a word used 74 times in the Hebrew Bible. Its etymology and precise meaning are unknown, though various interpretations are given. It is probably either a liturgical-musical mark or an instruction on the reading of the text, with the meaning of "stop and listen." Another proposal is that can be used to indicate that there is to be a musical interlude at that point in the Psalm. It can also be interpreted as a form of underlining in preparation for the next paragraph. It should not be confused with the Hebrew word () meaning "rock". Occurrences This word occurs 71 times in 39 of the Psalms, and three times in Habakkuk 3: altogether 74 times in the Bible. It is found at the end of Psalms 3, 24, and 46, and in most other cases at the end of a verse, the exceptions being Psalms 55:19, 57:3, and Habakkuk 3:3, 9, 13. Simeon Strong
Simeon Strong (1736–1805) was a justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Biography Simeon Strong was the son of Nehemiah Strong and Hannah French. He was born in Amherst, Province of Massachusetts on March 6, 1736, and graduated from Yale College in 1756. He studied Christian theology and preached in various locations in Massachusetts. Strong then studied law and was sworn as an attorney in 1761. Strong became a well-known attorney and practiced in Amherst.
