Alexander Montgomery (Mississippi Lawyer)
Alexander Montgomery (died September 7, 1878) was a Mississippi lawyer who served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Mississippi from 1831 to 1833. Born in Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi,Dunbar Rowland, ed., ''Encyclopedia of Mississippi History'', Volume 2 (1907), p. 280.''Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Mississippi'' (1891), p. 450. Montgomery was the son of a pioneers also named Alexander Montgomery, who had been chosen by President John Adams to serve on the Territorial council of Mississippi prior to statehood. The younger Montgomery was a pupil of George Poindexter and Edward Turner, and established a law practice in partnership with Samuel S. Boyd, a native of Maine; their firm "was for many years one of the leading ones of the State". Pope Martin V ( la, Martinus V; it, Martino V; January/February 1369 – 20 February 1431), born Otto (or Oddone) Colonna, was the head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 11 November 1417 to his death in February 1431. His election effectively ended the Western Schism of 1378–1417. He is the last pope to date to take on the pontifical name "Martin". Biography Oddone Colonna was born at Genazzano, the son of Agapito Colonna and Caterina Conti, between 26 January and 20 February, 1369. He belonged to one of the oldest and most distinguished families of Rome. His brother Giordano became Prince of Salerno and Duke of Venosa, while his sister Paola was Lady of Piombino between 1441 and 1445. Oddone studied law at the University of Pavia. Robert Morris Montgomery (May 12, 1849 – June 27, 1920) was a justice of the Michigan Supreme Court and a Presiding Judge of the United States Court of Customs Appeals. Education and career Born on May 12, 1849, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Montgomery read law in 1870. He served in the United States Army Seventh Michigan Cavalry in 1864, during the American Civil War. He entered private practice in Pentwater, Michigan from 1871 to 1873. He was an assistant assessor of internal revenue for the State of Michigan in 1873. He was prosecutor for Oceana County, Michigan from 1873 to 1877. He returned to private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1877. William Watts Montgomery (November 11, 1827 – January 9, 1897) was a justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia from 1872 to 1873.
