Stanley Matthews (judge)
Thomas Stanley Matthews (July 21, 1824 – March 22, 1889), known as Stanley Matthews in adulthood, was an American attorney, soldier, judge and Republican senator from Ohio who became an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, serving from May 1881 to his death in 1889. A progressive justice, he was the author of the landmark ruling in ''Yick Wo v. Hopkins''. Early life and education Matthews was born July 21, 1824, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the oldest of 11 children born to Thomas J. Matthews and Isabella Brown Matthews (his second wife). He graduated from Kenyon College in 1840. While there he met future president of the United States Rutherford B. Hayes and close friend John Celivergos Zachos. Matthews moved to his hometown Cincinnati with Zachos. George Mathews Jr. (September 30, 1774 – November 14, 1836), was a Judge of the Superior Courts of the Territory of Mississippi and the Territory of Orleans, and Presiding Judge of the Louisiana Supreme Court from 1813 until his death in 1836. His ruling in ''Marie Louise v. Marot'' was cited as precedent by dissenting U.S. Supreme Court Justice John McLean in the 1856 Landmark decisions in the United States, landmark ''Dred Scott v. Sandford'' case. Hugh Matthews, Lord Matthews (born 4 December 1953) is a Senator of the College of Justice, a judge of Scotland's College of Justice, Supreme Courts. Early life Matthews was educated at St Columba's Primary School and Saint Joseph's Academy (East Ayrshire), St Joseph's Academy, both Catholic education, Roman Catholic state schools in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire. He studied at the University of Glasgow School of Law, School of Law of the University of Glasgow (LL.B. Hons.), and was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1979. Warren Matthews
Warren W. Matthews, Jr. (born April 5, 1939) is an American lawyer and jurist who was a justice of the Alaska Supreme Court from 1977 to 2009. Matthews served as the 8th and 12th chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court. His service from May 1977 to April 2009 makes him the second-longest serving justice in Alaska history, slightly less than that of Jay Rabinowitz. Born in Santa Cruz, California, Matthews graduated from San Benito High School in Hollister, California in 1957, where he says he was inspired to become an attorney when one paid a visit to his classroom. Justice performs primarily on the independent circuit in the Midwestern United States, Midwest and Eastern United States. Early life Hannan grew up in Streetsboro, Ohio.
