Junín Antpitta
The Junín antpitta (''Grallaria obscura'') is a species of bird in the family Grallariidae. It is endemic to the Peruvian department, Junín. It is a member of the rufous antpitta species complex and was formally elevated from subspecies to species in 2020. Taxonomy The Junín antpitta was described as a subspecies in 1896, but a 2020 study found that differences in genetics, vocalizations and plumage warranted its elevation to species. The Junín antpitta is named after Junín, Peru, the department to which the species is confined. Distribution and habitat The Junín antpitta is endemic to the eastern Peruvian Andes in the department of Junín. Their range is bounded in the north by the Perené and Paucartambo rivers, in the west by the Ene river, and in the south by the Mantaro and Pampas rivers. It is found at elevations of 3,000–3,600 m. Ene River
The Ene River ( es, Río Ene; que, Iniy mayu) is a Peruvian river on the eastern slopes of the South American Andes. Geography Headwaters The Ene is formed at at the confluence of the Mantaro River and the Apurímac River, circa 400 m above sea level, where the three Peruvian Regions Junín, Cusco, and Ayacucho meet. The river flows in a northwesterly direction at a total length of 180.6 km. Grallaria
''Grallaria'' is a large genus of Neotropical birds in the antpitta family Grallariidae. The genus was introduced by the French ornithologist Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in 1816 with the variegated antpitta (''Grallaria varia'') as the type species. The genus name is from New Latin ''grallarius'' meaning "stilt-walker". The Urubamba antpitta (''Grallaria occabambae'') is a bird in the family Grallariidae. The species was first described as a subspecies by Frank Chapman in 1923. It is endemic to Peru. It is a member of the rufous antpitta species complex and was elevated from subspecies to species in 2020 on the basis of differences in plumage and vocalization. The same study also described a new subspecies of Urubamba antpitta (''G. o. marcapatensis''). The Panao antpitta (''Grallaria oneilli'') is a species of bird in the family Grallariidae. It is endemic to Peru. It is a member of the rufous antpitta species complex and was formally described in 2020 by R. Terry Chesser and Morton L. Isler. Mantaro River
The Mantaro River ( es, Río Mantaro, qu, Hatunmayu) is a long river running through the central region of Peru. Its Quechua name means "great river". The word "Mantaro" may be a word originally from the Asháninka language, who live downstream along the Ene River.
