Julius Edward Roehr was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. Biography Roehr was born on March 6, 1860, in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Wisconsin in 1873, settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Roehr graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and began practicing law. Wisconsin Senate, District 8
Wisconsin's 8th State Senate district is one of 33 districts of the Wisconsin State Senate. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district comprises northeastern Milwaukee County, southern Ozaukee County, southern Washington County, and northeastern Waukesha County. Current elected officials Alberta Darling was the most recent senator representing the 8th district. She was first elected in the 1992 general election and resigned in December 2022. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. The 1896 Republican National Convention was held in a temporary structure south of the St. Louis City Hall in Saint Louis, Missouri, from June 16 to June 18, 1896. Former Governor William McKinley of Ohio was nominated for president on the first ballot with 661½ votes to 84½ for House Speaker Thomas Brackett Reed of Maine, 61½ votes for Senator Matthew S. Quay of Pennsylvania, 58 votes for Governor Levi P. Morton of New York who was vice president (1889–1893) under President Benjamin Harrison. New Jersey banker Garret A. Hobart was nominated for vice president over Henry Clay Evans of Tennessee. Joseph B. Foraker of Ohio placed McKinley's name in nomination. Michał Kruszka
Michał Kruszka or Michael Kruszka (September 28, 1860December 2, 1918) was a Polish American immigrant, politician, and journalist. He served four years in the Wisconsin State Senate and two years in the State Assembly, representing Milwaukee's south side and southern Milwaukee County. He was the first Polish American member of the Wisconsin Legislature. Biography Michał Kruszka was born in 1860 in Słabomierz, in what is now northwest Poland. At the time it was within the Province of Posen in the Kingdom of Prussia. He was educated at the colleges of Filehne and Wągrowiec. Arrested by the Kaiser's police for pro-Polish agitation and protests against Germanization in his native Poznań at a very early age, Kruszka left Prussia following his release. He arrived in United States in 1880. After arriving in the US, Kruszka learned to speak English and received a business school education at Elizabeth, New Jersey.
