Julius Caesar Alford
Julius Caesar Alford (May 10, 1799 – January 1, 1863) was an American slave owner, politician, soldier and lawyer. Biography Born in Greensboro, Georgia, in 1799, Alford studied law, gained admission to the state bar in 1809, and began practicing law in Lagrange, Georgia. Alford served in the Georgia House of Representatives and was a company commander during the Creek War. He was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian Representative from Georgia to the 24th United States Congress to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of George W. Towns. Alford served the remainder of that term from January 2, 1837, to March 3, 1837, and lost his reelection bid in 1836 to the 25th Congress. While serving in Congress in 1837, he called for a petition for the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia by 22 slaves to be burnt, leading to the Gag Rule on slavery petitions. Montgomery, Alabama
Montgomery is the capital city of the U.S. state of Alabama and the county seat of Montgomery County. Edward Junius Black (October 30, 1806 – September 1, 1846) was a slave owner, United States Representative and lawyer from Georgia. His son was U.S. Representative George Robison Black. Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, in 1806, the elder Black graduated from the Richmond Academy in Augusta, Georgia, studied law, gained admittance to the state bar in 1827 and began practicing law in Augusta. Black served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1829 to 1831. He moved to Screven County, Georgia, in 1832; at that time, he married Augusta George Anna Kirkland, and greatly grew his slave ownership from a few slaves to "thirty or forty slaves," according to his son's later recollections. In 1838, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Whig to represent Georgia in the 26th United States Congress and served one term from March 4, 1839, until March 3, 1841, as he lost his reelection bid as a Democrat for a second term in that seat in 1840; however, ... Jesse Franklin Cleveland (October 25, 1804 – June 22, 1841) was a United States House of Representatives, United States Representative and businessman from Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. Cleveland was born in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1804. He attended school in South Carolina before moving to Georgia. From 1831 to 1843, Cleveland served in the Georgia Senate. In 1835, Cleveland was elected as a Jacksonian United States House of Representatives, Representative from Georgia to the 24th United States Congress to complete the term left vacant when William Schley resigned to become Governor of Georgia. Cleveland was reelected to the 25th United States Congress, 25th Congress and his congressional service spanned from October 5, 1835, until March 3, 1839.
