Synopsis Julia is a young American woman living in Trieste, Italy who is widowed on her wedding day when her husband Paolo is killed in a car accident. ''Julie & Julia'' is a 2009 American biographical comedy-drama film written and directed by Nora Ephron starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Messina. The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child's cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog, which made her a published author. John Steiner
John Steiner (7 January 1941 – 31 July 2022) was an English actor. Tall, thin and gaunt, he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and performed on-stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company, but was best known to audiences for his roles in Italian films, several of which became cult classics. Early life and acting career Steiner was born in Chester, Cheshire on January 7, 1941. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. He acted in the role of Monsieur Dupere in Peter Brook's production of ''Marat/Sade''. He reprised the role when the play was transferred to Broadway, and again for the 1967 film adaptation. He found work primarily in films including and the original '' Bedazzled'' (1967) with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Vincent Canby (July 27, 1924 – October 15, 2000) was an American film and theatre critic who served as the chief film critic for ''The New York Times'' from 1969 until the early 1990s, then its chief theatre critic from 1994 until his death in 2000. He reviewed more than one thousand films during his tenure there. Early life Canby was born in Chicago, the son of Katharine Anne (née Vincent) and Lloyd Canby. He attended boarding school in Christchurch, Virginia, with novelist William Styron, and the two became friends. He introduced Styron to the works of E.B. White and Ernest Hemingway; the pair hitchhiked to Richmond to buy ''For Whom the Bell Tolls''. Nino Cerruti (25 September 1930 – 15 January 2022) was an Italian businessman and stylist. He founded his own haute couture house, Cerruti, in 1967 in Paris. He managed the Italian family business ''Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti'', which was founded in 1881 by his grandfather. Early life and career Cerruti was born in Biella, Italy, on 25 September 1930. He became the head of the family woollen business, after his father's untimely death. His grandfather had founded a textile mill in Biella in 1881 (''Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti'').
