Judo In India
Judo is a sport which is widely played in India. The first written record of judo in India refers to demonstrations and coaching by Japanese judoka Shinzo Takagaki in Shantiniketan, arranged by Rabindranath Tagore in 1929. The Judo Federation of India was formed in 1965. In the 2010 Judo World Cup in Tashkent, Thoudam Kalpana Devi of Manipur became the first Indian to win a World Cup top-three finish. Akram Shah (born 11 June 1974 or 27 July 1978) is an Indian judoka, played in the extra-lightweight (-60 kg) in various National and International tournaments. Asian Judo Championships
Asian Judo Championships is the Judo Asian Championship organized by the Judo Union of Asia. The men's tournament began in 1966 and was held approximately every four years, until 1991, when it became an annual event (except in the years when the Asian Games have been held.) The women's tournament was first staged in 1981, and it has been held with the men's tournament every year, except in 1984/5. Garima Chaudhary
Garima Chaudhary (born 2 April 1990) is an Indian judoka. She was India's sole judoka at the 2012 London Olympics, competing in the Women's (63 kg) category . Childhood and early training Born to parents hailing from a middle class family, Chaudhary was inclined to sports during her childhood. She was good at sports such as kabaddi, athletics and cricket. While the father of Chaudhary remained concerned about her education, her mother continued to encourage her interest in sports. She represented her native state of Uttar Pradesh initially. Due to lack of suitable support from the state's sports association, she began representing Haryana in national-level competitions. Since 2004, Chaudhary has been training with Jiwan Sharma and Divya Sharma at Patiala-based National Institute of Sports. Due to lack of proper facilities, she had to practice with boys. Avtar Singh (judoka)
Avtar Singh (born 3 April 1992) is an Indian judoka who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Personal life Singh was born on 3 April 1992 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India. Whilst growing up in Kothe Ghurala village, he spent time working on his parents farm. He works as an assistant sub inspector for the Punjab Police (India), Punjab Police. Judo He represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. In the Judo at the 2014 Commonwealth Games – Men's 90 kg, men's middleweight event, he was defeated by eventual silver medallist Matthew Purssey of Scotland in the round of 16. Singh competed in just six events from 2015 until May 2016, with problems with the Indian Federation and with getting funding preventing him from travelling to tournaments.
