Judo At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 12 August at the Carioca Arena 2 inside the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca. Around 386 judoka competed in 14 events (seven each for both men and women). Qualification Similar to 2012 format, qualification was based on the world ranking list prepared by International Judo Federation as of May 30, 2016. A total of 252 athletes directly qualified through the ranking with only the top 22 men or top 14 women in each division, ensuring that each NOC was subjected to a limit of one judoka per division. Competition schedule There were two sessions of competition on each day of the 2016 Olympic Judo program. The first session (Elimination & Quarterfinal) was conducted from 10:00 to 13:00 BRT, and the second session (repechage, semifinal, Bronze medal and Gold medal) was conducted from 15:30 to 18:10 BRT. Carioca Arena 2
Carioca Arena 2 (Portuguese: ''Arena Carioca 2'') is an indoor stadium in Barra da Tijuca in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The venue hosted judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics, judo and wrestling at the 2016 Summer Olympics as well as boccia at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. As with a number of other venues in the Barra Olympic Park, Carioca Arena 2 will be transformed after the games to become part of the Olympic Training Center (Rio de Janeiro), Olympic Training Centre. The women's 48 kg competition in judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was held on 6 August at the Carioca Arena 2. The gold and silver medals were determined by a single-elimination tournament, with the winner of the final taking gold and the loser receiving silver. Judo events awarded two bronze medals. Quarterfinal losers competed in a repechage match for the right to face a semifinal loser for a bronze medal (that is, the judokas defeated in quarterfinals A and B competed against each other, with the winner of that match facing the semifinal loser from the other half of the bracket). The medals for the competition were presented by Yumilka Ruiz, Cuba, member of the International Olympic Committee and the gifts were presented by Marius Vizer, president of the International Judo Federation. An Ba-ul (a.k.a. An Baul; Hangul: 안바울, ; born 25 March 1994) is a South Korean judoka. An is the former half-lightweight World Champion. He rose to prominence by becoming South Korea's first half-lightweight champion in more than a decade. Before transitioning to senior level, An was a noted junior judoka, where he was also junior World Champion. He is known for his tactical style of fighting and versatile seoi nage. is a Japanese judoka. Takato is currently the top ranked judoka in the world in the extra-lightweight division. He became one of judo's most prominent fighters by winning the 2013 World Championships. Beslan Zaudinovich Mudranov (russian: Беслан Заудинович Мудранов; born 7 July 1986) ( Circassian: Мудран Беслъэн) is a Russian judoka (since 2008) and former Sambo wrestler (2003–2008) of Circassian descent.
