Women's 52 kg competition in judo at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, took place at ExCeL London. The gold and silver medals were determined by a single-elimination tournament, with the winner of the final taking gold and the loser receiving silver. Judo events awarded two bronze medals. Quarterfinal losers competed in a repechage match for the right to face a semifinal loser for a bronze medal (that is, the judokas defeated in quarterfinals A and B competed against each other, with the winner of that match facing the semifinal loser from the other half of the bracket). ExCeL Exhibition Centre
ExCeL London (an abbreviation for Exhibition Centre London) is an exhibition centre, international convention centre and former hospital in the Custom House area of Newham, East London. Ana Carrascosa Zaragoza (born 6 May 1980) is a Spanish judoka who competes in the women's 52 kg category. Carrascosa has twice been a bronze medalist at the World Judo Championships ( 2009, 2011). At European level, Carrascosa has won the European Championships once (2008), came second twice ( 2002 and 2009) and won one bronze medal ( 2011). At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Carrascosa reached the third round where she lost to the eventual champion Xian Dongmei. She then lost to Kim Kyung-ok in the bronze medal match in the repechage. Romy Tarangul
Romy Tarangul (born 19 October 1987 in Frankfurt (Oder)) is a German judoka. She currently competes in the -52 kg category for the JC 90 Frankfurt (Oder). In 2008, Tarangul won the silver medal at the European Championships. With this result Tarangul qualified for the Beijing Olympics, where she reached a 9th place overall. After winning her first bout against Uzbek Sinura Djuraeva she lost narrowly to Misato Nakamura of Japan in the round of 16 and then to Ilse Heylen of Belgium in the repechage round. Sophie Cox (born 1981) is a British judo player from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. She represented Great Britain at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece. Judo career Cox became champion of Great Britain, winning the lightweight division at the British Judo Championships in 2001.
