Judo At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's 52 Kg
The Women's 52 kg (also known as ''half-lightweight'') judo tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held on August 10 at the Beijing Science and Technology University Gymnasium. A total of 22 women competed in this event, limited to jūdōka with a body weight of less than 52 kilograms. Preliminary rounds started at 12:00 China Standard Time, CST, while repechage finals, semifinals, bouts for bronze medals and the final were held at 18:00 CST. This event was the second-lightest of the women's judo weight classes, limiting competitors to a maximum of 52 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes. If the bout was still tied at the end, it was extended for another five-minute, sudden-death period; if neither judoka scored during that period, the match is decided by the judges. Ilse Heylen (born 21 March 1977, Edegem) is a Belgian judoka. She won the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Heylen competed in the Half-lightweight (52 kg). She won her first two bouts against Madagascar's Naina Ravaoarisoa and Kazakhstan's Sholpan Kaliyeva before losing to Cuba's Amarilis Savón, the eventual bronze medal winner, she advanced to the repechage however. Romy Tarangul
Romy Tarangul (born 19 October 1987 in Frankfurt (Oder)) is a German judoka. She currently competes in the -52 kg category for the JC 90 Frankfurt (Oder). In 2008, Tarangul won the silver medal at the European Championships. With this result Tarangul qualified for the Beijing Olympics, where she reached a 9th place overall.
