Judo At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's 63 Kg
These are the results of the women's 63 kg (also known as ''half-middleweight'') competition in judo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. A total of 22 women qualified for this event, limited to judo, jūdōka whose body weight was less than, or equal to, 63 kilograms. Competition took place in the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on 19 September. Competitors Main bracket The gold and silver medalists were determined by the final match of the main single-elimination bracket. Repechage The losing semifinalists as well as those judoka eliminated in earlier rounds by the four semifinalists of the main bracket advanced to the repechage. Sydney Convention And Exhibition Centre
The Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre was a convention, exhibition and entertainment complex in Darling Harbour, Sydney. Designed by Philip Cox, the complex opened in 1988 as part of an urban renewal and redevelopment of the Darling Harbour area during the period. The complex was eventually demolished in 2013 to make way for the International Convention Centre. History Built by Leighton Contractors, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (SC&EC) opened in 1988, with a new section of the centre added for the 2000 Summer Olympics. During those games, the venue played host to the boxing, fencing, judo, weightlifting, and wrestling competitions. Repechage (; french: repêchage, "fishing out, rescuing") is a practice in series competitions that allows participants who failed to meet qualifying standards by a small margin to continue to the next round. A well known example is the wild card system. Types Different types of repechage can occur. Keiko Maeda
is a Japanese retired judoka. Teshima was born in Takasago, Hyogo, and began judo at the age of 12. She entered Miki House after graduating from Tsukuba University. She was good at Seoinage and Newaza. In 1998, Teshima won a gold medal the World Junior Judo Championships. In 1999, she won a gold medal at the World Judo Championships and the Ippon Trophy. Celita Schutz
Celita Valerie Schutz (born 17 February 1968 in Houston, Texas) is an American judoka who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics, in the 2000 Summer Olympics, and in the 2004 Summer Olympics on the women's team. She is a graduate of Yale University. class of 1990. Schutz grew up in River Vale, New Jersey, where seeing her brother taking a lesson convinced her to take up judo at the age of six. She began training at a young age with Sensei Ogasawara at Kokushi Dojo, in Westwood, New Jersey. She became nationally ranked at age 14 and internationally ranked at age 16. While competing worldwide, much of Celita's extended international training occurred in Japan, Spain, Germany and Brazil.
