Judo At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's 90 Kg
Men's 90 kg competition in judo at the 2000 Summer Olympics was held on 20 September at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. This event was the third-heaviest of the men's judo weight classes, limiting competitors to a maximum of 90 kilograms of body mass. Like all other judo events, bouts lasted five minutes. If the bout was still tied at the end, it was extended for another five-minute, sudden-death period; if neither judoka scored during that period, the match is decided by the judges. The tournament bracket consisted of a single-elimination contest culminating in a gold medal match. There was also a repechage to determine the winners of the two bronze medals. Each judoka who had lost to a semifinalist competed in the repechage. The two judokas who lost in the semifinals faced the winner of the opposite half of the bracket's repechage in bronze medal bouts. Sydney Convention And Exhibition Centre
The Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre was a convention, exhibition and entertainment complex in Darling Harbour, Sydney. Designed by Philip Cox, the complex opened in 1988 as part of an urban renewal and redevelopment of the Darling Harbour area during the period. The complex was eventually demolished in 2013 to make way for the International Convention Centre. History Built by Leighton Contractors, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (SC&EC) opened in 1988, with a new section of the centre added for the 2000 Summer Olympics. During those games, the venue played host to the boxing, fencing, judo, weightlifting, and wrestling competitions. Hidehiko Yoshida
is a Japanese gold-medalist judoka and retired mixed martial artist. He is a longtime veteran of Japan's PRIDE Fighting Championships, competing in the Middleweight (93kg) and Heavyweight divisions. He won gold at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games at 78 kg. Yoshida also had two famous fights with MMA pioneer Royce Gracie that resulted in a no-contest and a time-limit draw. Judo career Yoshida first came onto the judo scene at the 1991 World Judo Championships in Barcelona, taking third place at 78 kg. He then took gold in the 1991 All Japan Judo Championships and 1992 A-Tournament in Sofia before entering the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. Batjargalyn Odkhüü
Batjargalyn Odkhüü ( mn, Батжаргалын Одхүү; born March 11, 1977, in Bayankhutag, Khentii) is a Mongolian judoka, who competed in the men's half-heavyweight category. He picked up a bronze medal in the 100-kg division at the 2003 Asian Judo Championships in Jeju City, South Korea, and represented his nation Mongolia in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004). Batjargal made his official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he competed in the men's middleweight class (90 kg).
